Randall's wishes meant Bullock carried the diagnosis largely on her own.

"I know why he asked me not to... it isolated me in the process and plus the entire world was locked in with the pandemic," she said.

The actress explained that Randall was ill for much of their relationship, while his diagnosis emerged around the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. She also cared for their children while navigating the uncertainty surrounding his condition.

Sandra Bullock revealed how closely she kept Bryan Randall's diagnosis within her family.

"But I had two young kids that were navigating, especially a little girl who saw him as a father figure. So with COVID, and all of that, and being asked not to talk," she said.

The secrecy extended beyond her immediate family, leaving Bullock with very few people she could turn to.

"I wasn't even allowed to tell Amanda [Anka] (Jason Bateman's wife), I wasn't allowed to tell anybody. My sister was the only one who knew for a while," she continued.

Bullock worked with child therapists to help Laila and Louis navigate Randall's illness, saying both children understood what was happening around them.

Sandra Bullock reflected on preparing herself for the challenges of caregiving.

Reflecting on the past, Bullock recalled the moment she realized she needed to prepare herself for what was ahead.

"Something in me said, start the grieving now because I knew I would be the caregiver," she said.

She described how the experience changed the way she viewed her relationship with Randall.

"The selfish part of me, my person left a lot earlier than the body left, and I had to… I don't think I ever dealt with that until after he passed because you're just on this treadmill," she said.

Randall died on August 5, 2023, at age 57 after battling ALS.

Bullock also acknowledged the emotions that remained unresolved after his death.

"The thing with my journey with Bryan is that I didn't stop feeling guilt as a mother with my kids until I'd say about a year ago. There's things I didn't process," she concluded.
