Sandra Bullock finally revealed why she kept her longtime partner Brian Randall's "traumatic" ALS diagnosis a secret more than three years after his death.

Bullock, 62, opened up about her final days with her partner of eight years on the August 17 episode of Will Arnett, Sean Hayes and Jason Bateman's "Smartless" podcast.

Randall was diagnosed with the fatal nervous system disease in 2020 while the couple was raising her adopted children, Louis and Laila, in a global pandemic.

"He asked me not to share," the actress divulged. "I know why he asked me not to."

Sandra Bullock and Brian Randall found out about his ALS amid a pandemic.

Dealing with kids, a planet-wide health crisis and a life-changing diagnosis turned out to be a "dark trifecta" for the family. While Bullock wanted to keep her partner's dying wish, she admitted that his request "isolated [her] in the process."

"It is a traumatic diagnosis," she noted.

The Oscar-winner was allowed to confide in her sister, Gesine Bullock-Prado, which she initially thought would be enough to manage.

"My sister was the only one who knew for a while,” Bullock shared. “At first I go, ‘Oh, I can handle that. I can be quiet.”

Sandra Bullock confided in friend Jennifer Aniston about her partner's health.

Eventually, Bullock confided in some of her close friends, including Jennifer Aniston and Bateman's wife, Amanda Anka Bateman. But she was careful to keep the privileged information within a close circle.

"I don't wanna harm others because of what I do," the star confessed. "So I think not talking for a while was good.”

ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, gradually leads to muscle paralysis, extreme fatigue and loss of the ability to swallow or speak, though many victims remain cognitively alert through the end of their battles with the illness.

There is no cure and most ALS patients live only two to five years after their initial diagnosis.

Brian Randall passed away in 2023 after his three-year health battle.

Because of the bleak outlook for those diagnosed with ALS, Bullock recalled beginning to grieve Randall far before he actually died at 57.

"I think where he was in his journey, both physically and mentally, I started grieving Brian four years before he passed," she explained. "There was something that had shifted."

As the star took on the role of his caretaker, she lost time to process what had really been taken away from her at the hands of the incurable illness.

"My person left a lot earlier than the body left,” she continued. “I don't think I ever dealt with that until after he passed, because you're just on this treadmill."
