'Sex & The City' Reboot Moves Kim Cattrall's Character Samantha Jones To London After 'Fallout' With Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie Bradshaw: Report
Fans of Sex and the City finally know how Samantha Jones' absence will be explained in the upcoming reboot And Just Like That...
A source close to production dished to The Daily Mail that in the new installment — set to premiere on HBO Max December 9 — Kim Cattrall's character will be moved overseas to London after a falling out with Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie Bradshaw.
"We couldn't have Samantha roaming around New York City and not have the other women (Charlotte and Miranda) not interacting with her," the insider explained. "It just wouldn't have made sense."
"Sending her to Los Angeles wasn't an option as we'd done that in the first movie, so having her character based in London really was the perfect way to keep her alive and explain her absence," the source said. "Viewers will learn that she is thriving in England even though she has fallen out with Carrie."
The breakup of the long-time besties will have SJP's character going through difficult times. "Carrie is the one who has the tough time without Samantha and by the end of 'And Just Like That.. you'll see Carrie extend the olive branch and try and rekindle the friendship," the insider tells the outlet.
The latest reinvention of the hit 90's show will see beloved characters Carrie, Charlotte and Miranda as they navigate their friendships and relationships into their 50's.

As OK! previously reported, art appeared to mirror life as bad blood between the Mannequin star and the Hocus Pocus actress reportedly kept Cattrall from joining the reboot. But producers are hoping that the Canadian actress might give in just in time for the second season.
"We have high hopes that by the time we begin filming the second season, Kim will have joined the show and Samantha Jones can make a triumphant return to the big apple," a source added. "We want Kim back. She was missed on set."
"We all understand why she feels the way she does. We get it. We just want her to come back for future seasons," the insider continued. "Samantha Jones is one of television's all time much loved characters and Kim is a phenomenal actress who brings her to life perfectly. She needs to come home, if not for us, but for the fans that adore her."
