Actress Soleil Moon Frye’s new documentary, Kid90, is a self-exploration of growing up in the spotlight and navigating life as a child prodigy. 

As she was making the docuseries, Moon Frye revisited decades old videos, audio recordings and diary entries from her time as a child star — even if it meant reliving some of her darker moments from her past.

Some of the happier memories shown are when she was surrounded by her A-list circle of friends: Brian Austin Green, David Arquette and Leonardo DiCaprio. The young stars appeared endearing, unselfconscious and seemingly enjoying life as celebrities before the boom of paparazzi and social media.  

Other more powerful moments were when she revealed a man forcibly thrust himself inside of her when she was only 17. “He asked if I’d say that he had raped me, but I wouldn’t. I was also to blame for my forwardness,” she’d written, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Moon Frye also details losing her virginity to actor Charlie Sheen at 18 and he was 29. She described the Two and Half Men star as “so kind and loving,” and says the two have maintained a friendship. 

In the documentary, Moon Frye revisits a journal entry from December, 18, 1994, the day she lost her “virginity” to Sheen. “It’s been the most strange and incredible day ever,” she says. “He’s somebody I’ve had a crush on for years. He's a person that intrigues me and excites me.” She calls Sheen her “Mr. Big” — Carrie Bradshaw’s on-and-off love in the hit series Sex and the City.  

Now, at 44, Moon Frye is riding high as the star of Peacock’s reboot of the beloved show that catapulted her career, Punky Brewster. Although the mother-of-four is retelling her childhood in the documentary, Kid90, she is looking forward to her future as she looks to regain control of her career and take on Hollywood.
