Laundrie Family Attorney Says He Doesn't Know What Brian Laundrie Told His Parents When He Left Home But He Was 'Out Of Sorts'
The Laundrie family attorney Steven Bertolino has said he doesn't know why Brian Laundrie was upset when he left his home for the last time.
The 23-year-old reportedly told his family that he was going on a hike on September 13. The attorney previously revealed that Brian was upset when he left home and that his parents, Chris and Roberta, tried to stop him.
Bertolino previously told NBC News Now that Brian's parents did not know their son would vanish.
Days later, the fugitive was reported missing on September 17. Earlier this month, the FBI confirmed that the human remains found in the Carlton Reserve in Florida belonged to Brian.
Bertolino told TMZ that he cannot answer as to why Brian was upset when he left his home. "What I can tell you is, as I've said a couple of times now, Brian was upset, he was distressed, I'd use the term out of sorts. He just didn't seem his normal self and as Roberta Laundrie pointed out, you just don't know what somebody is thinking inside."
"So they're looking back trying to figure out how his disposition was that day," Bertolino explained.
"I don't know what Brian told them but ultimately we know the result, Brian is no longer with us and neither is Gabby [Petito] and it's just a tragic situation for both families," he told the outlet.

A journal and a backpack were found near Brian's remains. "I have no idea what was in the journal, I don't believe Chris and Roberta have any idea what was in the journal," Bertolino said.
"What I've been told it may be salvageable, it may not. I've heard different versions of that. I would just ask that let's wait until the authorities produce what they have with respect to that journal and then we'll find out what's in it," he added.
There has been speculation about how Brian's remains decomposed so quickly. He was identified via dental records. His initial autopsy was reportedly inconclusive, and the skeletal remains were sent to an anthropologist for further evaluation.
"We probably suspect it was a combination of both natural decomposition and that wet waterlogged environment coupled with all the wildlife that live in that reserve and park," Bertolino told TMZ. "The end result is the same, Brian is dead."
Bertolino also told the publication that the people gathering outside the Laundrie family home have been "dissipating, slowly but surely" since Brian's remains were identified.
Brian and Petito embarked on a road trip in early July but he returned home without her on September 1. The influencer's remains were discovered in the Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming on September 19. Teton County Coroner Brent Blue later announced that the 22-year-old's autopsy revealed that she died after being strangled to death.
An arrest warrant had been issued for Brian pertaining to the unauthorized use of a debit card and he was a person of interest in Petito's case.
