Selena Gomez shared a sneak peek of her long-awaited comeback record and one of the singles, “Cut You Off,” seemed directed at her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber! The “Lose You To Love Me” singer also announced the date of her upcoming album RARE on December 12.
“Can't believe I'm revealing the art and title for my new album RARE, out January 10th,” Selena, 27, wrote alongside a video remix of some of her new songs. “It's the most honest music I've ever made and I can't wait for you to hear my heart.”
Selena admitted she wrote many of her new songs in 2017, which is when she and Justin, 25, broke up. “I gotta get you out my head now. I just cut you off,” she crooned in the song “Cut You Off.”
The singer previously revealed that a lot of her upcoming album was about some of her tough experiences with love. “Everyone writes about something they felt and the biggest topic is love. It’s not something negative. It’s actually something that was positive that I got to experience that as beautiful and as ugly as it was,” Selena said in an interview with Ryan Seacrest on October 24.
During an appearance on the Zach Sang Show on October 25, Selena appeared to throw shade at Justin when she talked about what she’s looking for in love. “I want it to be real and I don’t want it to be codependent or messy or lack of communication,” she said.
The singer dropped her first single “Lose You To Love Me” on October 23 and fans immediately speculated that it was about her split from Justin. The pair famously broke up in 2017 after rekindling their on-again/off-again romance. Justin then moved on to Hailey Baldwin, whom he married in September 2019.
The same day as the single’s release, Hailey, 23, posted a screenshot on her Instagram Story of the song, “I’ll Kill You” by Summer Walker. Many fans took the post as the model throwing shade at Selena.
However, a source told RadarOnline.com that Hailey was more concerned that the song would have a negative effect on Justin’s mental state. “She knows they have a long history, and they’re both singers, so they’re going to make statements about their lives and experiences. But Hailey is just worried about how the song will affect Justin, more than anything,” the source said. “He’s had his share of struggles and mental health issues, and despite being in a much stronger place, he is also fragile and sensitive.”
