The Bachelorette came under fire when it was announced that both Kaitlyn Bristowe and Britt Nilsson would compete against each other to find love – and Kaitlyn didn’t disagree with the naysayers! In a conference call with OKMagazine.com, Kaitlyn revealed why she decided to join the show despite her reservations of battling it out with Britt and which former cast member helped her prepare for the journey!
Sharing the spotlight with Britt wasn’t what Kaitlyn had in mind when she signed up for The Bachelorette, which is why she was hesitant to join at first. “It was definitely unexpected and I was shocked,” she admitted. “And yes – I was kind of just beside myself because I didn’t know what to think. I wasn’t excited about it, but I just really had to take a step back and think of the light at the end of the tunnel.”
Although Kaitlyn went through with the process, she did think about quitting. “I was kind of all over the map with how I felt about it,” the dancer said. “At one point, I was like, 'well if this is how I find a husband, then I guess.' And then there are times I was like, 'no, I don't need to put myself through that kind of stress.' But yes, I was kind of all over the place.”
Keeping an open mind about the experience, Kaitlyn didn’t reject contestants who where there to meet Britt. “They’re put in a tough position where they barely know these two women and you have a short amount of time to even just sit down and chat before somebody else comes steal us away," she explained. "So I think if somebody voted for Britt... I wouldn’t hold it against him, Britt’s lovely.”
Despite the franchise coming under fire because many believed having two Bachelorettes was degrading, Kaitlyn disagreed with the criticism. “I wouldn’t have done it if I thought it was the most degrading thing in the world. At what point do you say it’s crazy to do that? I think it was just a little twist and turn that they decided to do. And I just think the main thing we all have to think about was the end result and finding one person."
Kaitlyn didn’t receive advice from Chris Soules because “he’s a busy man,” but she did get help from former Bachelorette Andi Dorfman. “She just told me that just to always stick to who Kaitlyn is and to always go with how I’m actually feeling, how my heart feels, not to get lost in all, you know, the Bachelorette world, to actually just go with my heart.”
The Bachelorette airs tonight at 9/8c on ABC.
