Britney Spears fans were up in arms about her recent social media post.

On Sunday, March 13, the pop superstar, 40, posted a snap to Instagram that had her followers thinking she was about to make a huge announcement to the world that she was expecting a baby — however, this was not the case.

"My baby is getting bigger," Spears captioned the photo of herself in a black and red mini dress, as she posed with her hands adjacent to her midsection. "I will just say it just like when my boys got bigger … IT LITERALLY SUCKS."

While many were hoping Spears was hinting at a possible bun in the oven, it seems the "Circus" songstress was referring to her Australian Shepherd, Sawyer, who she welcomed to the family in February.

The "Toxic" singer — who shares sons Sean Preston, 16, and Jayden James, 15, with her ex-husband Kevin Federline — went on to lament how hard it is to watch her boys getting older before hinting they don't want to be shown to her 39.9 million Instagram followers.

"They dont need me anymore … I’ve cried oceans 🌊 for my boys and I’m not lying !!!! Hopefully one day I can show recent pics of us but in the meantime, I respect their wishes 🤷🏼‍♀️😂💋 !!!! Oh well … but Sawyer … yes, he’s bigger but he will always need me and I like that 😝😍🤓 !!!!," Spears concluded her post.

Spears' fans immediately took to her comment section to share their confused reactions to her post, as one wrote: "I thought this was a pregnancy announcement," with laughing crying emojis. "I totally misread that as a pregnancy announcement," another admitted, as a third added: "no cuz we all thought you were pregnant."

The misleading post comes as the entertainer and her fiancé, Sam Asghari, are preparing for married life together — which may include a brand new bundle of joy.

As OK! previously reported, Spears teased last year on social media that she was yearning for the pitter patter of little feet wandering around the couple's home.

“I'm thinking about having another baby!!! I wonder if this one is a girl…,” Spears captioned a photo of a baby standing on its toes via Instagram. “She's on her toes reaching for something… that's for sure 🐣🙊💋💅🏼 !!!!⁣"

Although the hit maker already has two children of her own, the couple's potential child would be the first for the actor, 28 — who proposed to Spears in September of 2021 after four years of dating.

According to the blonde bombshell, she feels that Asghari was born to be a father. "Sam is so wonderful and giving with Britney's boys," a source exclusively told OK! last year. "She knows he'll be an amazing father."
