Dolly Parton 'Worked Up Until the Day She Died' Despite Brief Cancer Battle, Manager Says: 'She Loved Seeing Her Dreams Come to Life'

Dolly Parton never stopped hustling.

The Grammy winner passed away on Tuesday, August 25, at 80 years old after a brief battle with cancer, her family confirmed shortly after her death. According to her longtime manager Dany Nozell, the star continued working even while she was hospitalized in the days leading up to her passing.

"Dolly worked up until the day she died," he said in a statement obtained by ABC News. "She loved seeing her dreams come to life, and loved knowing her work brought people joy."

Parton had several upcoming projects at the time of her death, including a postponed Las Vegas residency, Broadway show, her new SongTeller Hotel and its accompanying Life of Many Colors Museum.

She also continued to work on her Imagination Library non-profit, which gave free books to millions of children across five countries.

"Ever the planner, Dolly worked with the team that she handpicked for the past several years to build a project roadmap that will guide us for decades to come," Nozell added. "As the leader of the team responsible for overseeing her legacy, we will ensure the many dreams she had yet to fulfill are brought to life."

Nozell assured fans that despite Parton's passing, there could be several projects rolling out in honor of her legacy in the near and distant future.

"Many projects were in various stages of development, and we want to be transparent with her fans about this fact," he shared. "If you see unreleased music, products, books, experiences and campaigns launched through official Dolly Parton channels, you can have confidence in knowing that she placed her personal stamp on it."

Shortly before she death, the country star canceled an appearance at Dollywood amid health concerns but told fans she had so much life she still hoped to live.

"As I’ve shared in video messages throughout the past year, I am dealing with some health issues that I just didn’t pay attention to when I was watching over Carl," she told People at the time, referencing her late husband, Carl Dean, who died last year.

"Even though I’m still healin’, I’m still workin’!" Parton added. "You know me — as I’ve often said — I’ve dreamed myself into a corner and I still have so many things I want to achieve, so I’m gonna keep on working as long as I can to see everything come to life."

Less than a year before her death, the star even declared to fans: "I don't think God is through with me."

Parton's death was announced on her social media channels by her nephew Bryan Seaver.

"This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago, before I fully absorbed it as a future reality,” he shared. “As her head of security for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven’t truly felt it until now."

"It is an honor, an honor that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness," he concluded. "But sadness lies with us, not with Dolly. Dolly has lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by Carl, her parents and countless others who have watched her and longed to meet her in the heavens."
