President Donald Trump faced widespread online mockery after waving the green flag to start the Freedom 250 IndyCar Grand Prix in Washington, D.C., on Sunday, August 23.

Critics claimed Trump's flag-waving technique looked highly unnatural, joking that instead of initiating a high-speed professional race, he seemed to be desperately swatting away a fly or clumsily operating the flag.

The administration pushed heavily for the Freedom 250 Grand Prix as part of America’s 250th-anniversary celebrations. The temporary street circuit sent 25 IndyCar vehicles roaring past major national landmarks like the Lincoln Memorial and the U.S. Capitol Building, reaching speeds close to 200 mph.

“This has to be the most embarrassing way to wave a flag I have ever seen in my life,” quipped popular anti-Trump X account Call to Activism, which added, “Also, considering he lost the war with Iran, it probably should be white.”

“Agreed about a white flag!!! P.S. It's one thing to not be able to dance, but to not know how to wave a flag???” noted another.

“Eventually, this Narcissist Coward Trump will be waving the ‘White Flag’ to Iran, just to reopen the strait he closed,” posted another, along with a meme of the portly POTUS waving a giant white diaper.

Critics ridiculed Donald Trump after a video went viral of his Freedom 250 Grand Prix race appearance.

“He looks f------ ridiculous,” said influencer JoJoFromJerz.

“This has a Michael Dukakis-in-the-tank aura,” quipped another, in reference to the former Democratic presidential hopeful riding in an M1 Abrams tank on September 13, 1988, in what is widely considered one of the worst public relations blunders in modern American political history.

Political commentators and critics slammed the event as an expensive "vanity project." Many pointed out that blocking off the National Mall for a race was a reckless distraction from pressing national issues like healthcare.

Residents and even a former NASCAR driver criticized the road conditions of the Freedom 250 race.

The temporary street circuit was heavily criticized. Residents and even a former NASCAR driver called out the roads for being "VERY bumpy," causing multiple IndyCar drivers to spin out and crash into concrete barriers during the event.

Despite Trump's desire for a massive public spectacle, onlookers reported that actual attendance was low.

On-site spectators complained that trees blocked the track, while broad television ratings indicators labeled the broadcast an overwhelming failure.

The flag-waving debacle wasn’t the only viral moment of the event. Another viral video appeared to capture a tense, heated conversation between the POTUS and First Lady Melania Trump in the presidential booth.

Fueling the rumors, Trump's close personal aide Natalie Harp was spotted sitting just a few rows behind the couple.

Footage showed Secret Service keeping Harp at a distance when the Trumps first arrived, leading internet commentators to speculate that Harp’s proximity contributed to the apparent argument.
