President Donald Trump's executive assistant Natalie Harp is "not beloved" by many of her colleagues inside the White House, according to veteran New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman.
Speaking on CNN, Haberman revealed that while Trump heavily relies on Harp, top West Wing aides actively dislike her presence and have repeatedly tried — and failed — to remove her from his inner circle.
“She is not beloved by a lot of her colleagues,” Haberman told Erin Burnett on Wednesday, August 19.
What Is Natalie Harp's Job?

Natalie Harp is loyal to the president.
The internal friction surrounds her immense access, unorthodox White House protocols, and an extreme personal devotion to the president.
Harp earned her nickname by constantly trailing Trump with a laptop and portable printer to instantly provide him with hard-copy articles, often sourced from fringe, right-wing websites.
She dictates and drafts Trump's late-night Truth Social posts. Advisors complain she feeds his ego with extreme praise while fueling his worst impulses with unvetted conspiracy theories.
Donald Trump 'Adores' Natalie Harp

Donald Trump 'adores' Natalie Harp, according to staffers and journalists.
Reporting indicates Harp resisted completing the standard federal background check required of other staff for an extended period, only recently launching a formal investigation to get clearance.
Top aides are forced to contact Harp directly to reach the president. Even foreign leaders reportedly text her personal phone when Trump is unavailable.
According to journalists and former staffers, West Wing officials are trapped in an awkward "food fight.” They are terrified of directly confronting Trump about Harp because he "really, really adores" her.

Natalie Harp wrote letters to the president.
“She does sometimes work through the process. There are people who will say that she, more regularly than she used to, will update colleagues on what she's doing,” Haberman said. “But there has been a lot of controversy around Harp's role for a while, and what it ends up being reduced to in the descriptions of some people is, essentially, a food fight.”
During the 2024 campaign, staff tried to create physical distance at Bedminster by refusing her a bedroom — forcing her to sleep in a women's locker room.
Despite these efforts, she remains fully integrated into Trump 2.0, working directly out of the Oval Office, holding a permanent seat on Marine One, and leaving adoring letters — deemed “heartsick” and “truly, madly, deeply — and wholly inappropriate” by journalist Michael Wolff — in his personal quarters, stating he is "all that matters" to her.
Jon Ossoff Takes Aim at Natalie Harp

Jon Ossoff blasted the aide.
While Democratic critics like Georgia Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff have publicly blasted Harp as a "sycophant" and a "comfort blanket," Trump loyalists have fiercely defended her.
Haberman said the scrutiny of the odd relationship is entirely warranted as Harp earns a taxpayer-funded annual salary of $150,000 for her dual role as special assistant and executive assistant to the president.
“This is going to raise different questions about who is around the president, who is working [on a] taxpayer salary,” she said.
