Donald Trump Represents 'a Failure of Character,' Mitt Romney Declares: He's 'Changing the Psyche of Our Nation'

Senator Mitt Romney made it clear that Donald Trump should not be president again in a new interview.
“I don’t think I’ve heard a single member of my caucus, the Republicans in the Senate, say ‘you know, Donald Trump is great. Aren’t we lucky to have him as our leader?’” Romney, 76, said on CBS News Sunday Morning.
“Donald Trump represents a failure of character, which is changing, I think in many respects, the psyche of our nation, and the heart of our nation. That’s something which takes a long time, if ever, to repair,” he added.
TV star Norah O'Donnell brought up how Romney, who has been outspoken and not agreed with Trump and other Republicans, is now a "pariah" in the Republican Party.
“Yeah, that’s saying it in a gentle way. No question I don’t really have a home in my party. I come from a tradition of Ronald Reagan and George Herbert Walker Bush and George W. Bush and John McCain,” Romney said. “Those are the people that have shaped our party: anti-Putin, anti-Russia, anti-authoritarian, anti-Kim Jong Un.”
“Character counts, the character of our leaders makes a difference, and it shapes the character of our country. That’s the party I’ve come from, and I don’t recognize that in the great majority of our party today,” he continued.
When asked if Romney would run for president in 2024, he insisted it won't happen.
“I can’t imagine any circumstance. Perhaps if Godzilla comes in and removes all the other candidates and so forth, but other than Godzilla stepping in, no I’m not running for president, not giving it any thought,” he said.
The interview comes after McKay Coppins' biography was released, in which Romney made fun of Trump's intelligence.

“I think he’s not smart. I mean, really not smart,” Romney said, according to the book, Romney: A Reckoning.
“It’s like, how is that possible for someone over the second or third grade to think that?” he apparently pondered after Trump suggested Americans inject themselves with bleach as a treatment for COVID-19.
Romney and Trump have never really gotten along, and when the former announced he would not be running for reelection, the businessman was elated.
“At the end of another term, I’d be in my mid-80s. Frankly, it’s time for a new generation of leaders. They’re the ones that need to make the decisions that will shape the world they will be living in," Romney said. “While I’m not running for reelection, I’m not retiring from the fight. I’ll be your United States senator until January of 2025.”

"FANTASTIC NEWS FOR AMERICA, THE GREAT STATE OF UTAH, & FOR THE REPUBLICAN PARTY. MITT ROMNEY, SOMETIMES REFERRED TO AS PIERRE DELECTO, WILL NOT BE SEEKING A SECOND TERM IN THE U.S. SENATE, WHERE HE DID NOT SERVE WITH DISTINCTION. A BIG PRIMARY FIGHT AGAINST HIM WAS IN THE OFFING, BUT NOW THAT WILL NOT BE NECESSARY. CONGRATS TO ALL. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!" Trump wrote back when he heard the news.
