Hunter Biden Says He’s ‘48.5 Percent' Not Straight While Opening Up About His Sexuality in Comedic Podcast Confession

Hunter Biden said he's "48.5 percent" not straight during an extensive 80-minute interview with progressive commentator Luke Beasley. The lighthearted exchange, which went viral in late August, was part of a broader comedic bit rather than a formal, serious coming-out confession.

The bit began when Beasley said, “Let's get serious. I am g--.” Biden responded with mock astonishment before Beasley asked if Biden was also not straight.

Biden replied, “Only a little bit.” When pressed on whether that meant more or less than 50 percent, Biden initially threw out "48.6 percent.”

As the interview progressed and the two continued to playfully banter, and tease one another, Biden, 56, jokingly adjusted his "gaydom" down to 47 percent.

Before leaving the interview, Biden told Beasley that the host had won back some of his favor, stating, “I just want to let you know that I am back up to 48.5 percent g--.” Beasley later compiled the running joke into a short clip titled "Tracking Hunter Biden's gayness throughout our interview."

The playful banter is part of a larger, deliberate media tour that Biden launched in mid-2026 to reclaim his identity and public narrative, using X and various podcasts.

Biden noted that because his private life, addiction struggles and personal communications had already been entirely exposed to the public square, he has nothing left to hide or fear, allowing him to banter freely with both allies and critics.

While the 48.5 percent comment was a running gag, it followed more pointed, serious commentary Biden made regarding LGBTQ+ issues a month prior.

During a July appearance on the I’ve Had It podcast, he asserted that a "closeted g-- mafia" exists within Washington, D.C., primarily among conservative lawmakers.

He argued that closeted politicians — a “closetocracy”— weaponize anti-LGBTQ+ vitriol and policy to mask their internal conflicts, rendering their private hypocrisies relevant to how they wield legislative power.

Biden specifically named Republicans, including the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, while discussing closeted politicians in Washington, and heavily implied that Sen. Ted Cruz could also be part of the LGBTQ+ community.

Beyond naming Graham and Cruz, Biden did not publicly list a full roster of names. Instead, he made a sweeping, broad allegation that "everybody knows every single one of them who's g--" within a largely Republican, closeted D.C. circle.

Hunter is married to South African filmmaker and activist Melissa Cohen Biden.

The couple tied the knot in May 2019 in a private wedding on the roof of her Los Angeles apartment building six days after they met.

Together, they share one son, Beau Biden Jr., born in March 2020 and named after Hunter's late older brother. Hunter has publicly credited Melissa with helping him maintain his sobriety and acting as his "protector."

Before his current marriage, Hunter was married to Kathleen Buhle from 1993 until their divorce was finalized in 2017.

He shares three daughters with Buhle: Naomi, Finnegan and Maisy. Following his divorce and his brother's passing, he was also in a brief, widely publicized relationship with his brother's widow, Hallie Biden, before meeting Melissa.
