JoJo Siwa Reveals She Is Not 'As Close' With Ex Kylie Prew But 'We're Both Okay,' Says She Has Been 'Straight Working Every Single Day' Following The Split
JoJo Siwa had quite the night at the 2021 American Music Awards.
The teen ditched her signature bow and rocked the red carpet in a mature black off-the-shoulder dress. The Dancing With The Stars contestant spoke to PEOPLE about her recent split from Kylie Prew.
"I was with my girlfriend for nine months. And those nine months were amazing and incredible. And obviously, I've talked about [it], we broke up," Siwa said. "And one thing that I'm grateful for is that we're both okay."
"We obviously aren't as close as we used to be, but we're both okay," the blonde beauty admitted. "And we're both happy, and that's all that matters."
The Dance Moms alum has been working hard in the aftermath of the split. "I've been straight working every single day," she explained. "However, single JoJo is funny. Every day she's like, 'I want to marry somebody, and then the next day she's like, 'Ugh, I'm so happy to be single.'"
"I am in a dress and heels the first time in my life," the Nickelodeon star said of her look. "When I knew I was coming to the AMAs, I was like, 'Oh, what am I gonna wear,' because I have had this transition while being on Dancing with the Stars where I've gone from dressing like I normally dress to looking more adult."

"And I want to branch out of my comfort zone, and so today we went for a dress. I got some heels on," she explained. Siwa revealed that her heels belong to her DWTS partner Jenna Johnson.
Siwa told the publication that competing on DWTS is not the same as being on Dance Moms. "And honestly being a dancer when I was little, it's a lot of things are quite opposite doing ballroom styles," she explained. "So it's super challenging, and I even have to remind myself, and Jenna in rehearsals will get mad at me like, 'Stop, you're putting pressure on yourself to do a tango when you've never done a tango.' And I'm like, 'You're right. You're right. You're right.'"
The 18-year-old previously told Us Weekly that the couple split up the same day she performed in DWTS’ "Disney Week" in October. "It’s been a few weeks and it’s been tough, but we’re getting through it," she told the outlet at the time.
"I would have handled it so much differently [if I wasn’t on the show]. I just want[ed] time to be sad," Siwa shared. She revealed that she was so busy she didn't even have time to cry.
