Maria Shriver Comes To Son-In-Law Chris Pratt's Defense After Critics Slammed Actor For Controversial Instagram Post
Family first. Maria Shriver made it clear she is in son-in-law Chris Pratt's corner.
As OK! previously reported, the Guardians of the Galaxy actor, 42, ignited criticism after he posted a photo with his wife Katherine Schwarzenegger on Instagram with a caption that many found to be “disrespectful” and “sexist.”
Social media users were especially angered after Pratt opted not to mention his son Jack — who he shares with ex-wife Anna Faris — in the post, after referring to his and Schwarzenegger's 8-month-old daughter Lyla as “healthy.” (Pratt and the Mom alum's 9-year-old son was born with several health issues.)
After Pratt received heavy backlash, Shriver, 66, decided to take matters into her own hands as she came to her son-in-law’s defense advising the actor to ignore the naysayers.
“I want to remind you today what a good man you are what a great father you are to jack and lyla what a great husband you are to katherine what a great son in law you are to me and what a great sense of humor you have !!” Shriver penned to her daughter’s hubby.
“I love you chris keep being your wonderful self,” she continued. “Rise above the noise your kids love [you] your family loves you your wife loves you what a beautiful life i’m proud of you xo.”
Shriver’s message comes on the heels of Pratt revealing that he went to bed feeling “depressed” after Faris became a trending topic on Twitter as fans showed their support for the actress.

In the original post on Tuesday, November 2, the Parks and Recreation actor wrote, “Guys. For real. Look how she’s looking at me! I mean. Find you somebody that looks like that!! You know!? We met in a church. She’s given me an amazing life, a gorgeous healthy daughter, she chews so loud that sometimes I put in my ear buds to drown it out, but that’s love!”
“She helps me with everything. In return, periodically, I open a jar of pickles. That’s the trade,” he continued. “Her heart is pure and it belongs to me. My greatest treasure right next to my Ken Griffey Jr Upper Deck Rookie card. Which if you know, you know is saying a lot.”
“It’s her birthday in about 6 weeks. So if I don’t get her anything, I’ll tell her to look back on this post. Love you honey ❤️❤️,” he concluded.
Aside from fans being outraged by his failure to mention his other child among his “greatest treasure,” other users online couldn’t help but point out the “possessive” nature of his words about his wife.
“It’s only cool if you’re looking at her the same man,” one user commented, while another wrote, “This one post could fill up a toxic Christian man bingo card.”
“Next time you compliment your wife, reconsider the pathetic negging and the casual disrespect,” another person commented.
Shriver also chimed in, commenting, "this is so sweet now show us how you look at her !!"
