BFF Breakup? Meghan Markle's Pal Jessica Mulroney Posts Cryptic Instagram Story About Finding 'Better Friends'
Battle of the besties? Meghan Markle’s best friend Jessica Mulroney hinted that things might be over between the frenemies nearly one year after their falling out.
On Sunday, June 27, the Canada native posted an Instagram Story with an inspirational quote on love and loss. The message read, “Life changes. You lose love. You lose friends. You lose pieces of yourself that you never imagined would be gone.
“And then, without even realizing it, those pieces come back. New love enters. Better friends come along. And a stronger, wiser you, is staring back in the mirror,” the message continued.
It didn’t take followers long to guess that Mulroney, 41, was possibly referring to her friendship with the Duchess of Sussex, 39.
The cryptic post about friendship comes just a year after the two women's relationship became rocky in June 2020 after the stylist’s racially charged public conflict with blogger Sasha Exeter.
Exeter claimed that Mulroney had “textbook white privilege” and called her out on Instagram, which Mulroney responded to by threatening a libel lawsuit. Later, the TV personality apologized to the So Sasha founder, explaining that she witnessed her “closest friend,” Markle, experience racism “front and centre” since joining the royal family.

According to a source at the time, Markle noted that using their friendship as an example was “hugely offensive."
“Of course Meghan is supportive of Jessica, as she is with all of her friends,” a second source said at the time. “But it’s a bit off-putting when Jessica seemingly uses their friendship for headlines. Meghan is very aware when people in her life do this.”
Amid the backlash, Mulroney lost her partnership with Canadian department store HUdson’s, stepped down from her recurring fashion segment on Good Morning America and was also cut from CTV’s I Do, Redo.
The status of the friendship between Markle and Mulroney has since been unclear. A source told Us Weekly in September 2020 that the two “are still friendly but not as close as before.”
Things seemed to be looking up for the BFFs when Markle sent a bouquet of flowers to Mulroney for her birthday in March. Later that month, Mulroney also came to Markle’s defense amid bullying accusations.
“I don’t know that anyone has ever had to deal with the pressure, the politics, and the press like this woman,” Mulroney wrote on Instagram. “In the face of it all, I have never seen her waver from kindness, empathy and love.”
