Megyn Kelly is skeptical over the new report about Charlie Kirk's assassination.
On the Wednesday, April 1, episode of her self-titled show, the journalist brought up the Friday, March 27, report from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), which said they were unable to confirm the bullet that killed the political activist came from the rifle suspected shooter Tyler Robinson possessed.

Megyn Kelly discussed the new report about whether the bullet that killed Charlie Kirk came from Tyler Robinson's rifle.
Kelly clarified there were two reports on the situation.
"One says that it was the bullet that they were unable to identify, the bullet recovered at autopsy, to the rifle," she explained. "And then that media filing, referencing the same ATF summary, described it as a 'bullet jacket' fragment that was compared to the rifle."
'It's Not 2 Separate Tests'

The journalist said that gun experts and courts see 'barrel matching' as a 'questionable' form of 'valid forensic science.'
"We actually called the authorities and asked whether there's more than one… and they told us no, that the media motion and the defense motion are talking about the same thing. There was fragment found, or at least tested," she continued. "It's not two separate tests. One's from the casing, and one's from the bullet. So for whatever it's worth, some fragment of the bullet was recovered."

'It's Questionable as a Valid Forensic Science'

Charlie Kirk was fatally shot in the neck in September 2025.
The political commentator said she talked to The Federalist's Sean Davis, "who knows a thing or two about guns."
"He suggested that the these sort of barrel matching, this whole process, it's questionable as a valid forensic science at all. He doesn't believe it is," Kelly revealed. "And he said multiple courts are now concluding the same thing. He said at best the forensics can tell you whether this bullet was fired from this particular make and model of gun, but it absolutely cannot conclusively determine that this bullet from the gun is from gun A and not gun B, when guns A and B are the same make and model of gun."
When Was Charlie Kirk Was Murdered?

Suspected shooter Tyler Robinson hasn't entered his plea yet.
"So I think he's suggesting we're asking too much of the ATF here," Kelly concluded.
Robinson allegedly shot Kirk in the neck on September 10, 2025, while he spoke at a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University. He has yet to enter a plea, and in February, his team's request to dismiss a county prosecutor involved in the trial was denied. (They claimed the prosecutor had a conflict of interest since they had a relative in the crowd where Kirk was assassinated.)
On April 17, a hearing will be held to decide whether the public will have access to the trial. Kirk's widow, Erika, requested full transparency in the case.
Robinson could face the death penalty.
