Melora Hardin recalled playing a 15-year-old streetwalker alongside Tom Selleck on 'Magnum, P.I.'

Melora Hardin recalled the unusual circumstances surrounding her 1983 appearance on Magnum, P.I. alongside Tom Selleck.
"It’s super cute. Well, except that I was playing a child prostitute," she said during an August 11 episode of the "Hey Dude... The 90s Called" podcast.
The revelation prompted shocked laughter from co-hosts Christine Taylor and David Lascher.
"Different time, folks! Different time. Where that was was considered cute," Hardin added.
The actress was just 15 when she portrayed Nancy Perkins Gillis on the crime drama.

Melora Hardin recalled her 'Magnum, P.I.' role alongside Tom Selleck.
Hardin showed a photograph during the podcast and explained the look she was given for the role.
"This is me without my wig, but I wore a very platinum blonde wig in this character. Obviously he had fallen, his character had gotten bumped-up. But you can see that I have tons of makeup on," she said.
She continued, "That was the whole prostitute part of it — the streetwalker part."

Melora Hardin appeared as Nancy Perkins Gillis on 'Magnum, P.I.' at the age of 15.
Hardin appeared in one of the episodes, which featured Selleck as Thomas Magnum, the private investigator at the center of the series.
Despite being only 15, she had already starred in shows including The Love Boat, Diff’rent Strokes, and Little House on the Prairie.

Melora Hardin Remembered Working With Tom Selleck

Melora Hardin recalled Tom Selleck’s kindness and how much he remembered about their 'Magnum, P.I.' episode.
Looking back, Hardin also spoke warmly about her experience with Selleck. She explained that the actor photographed the show's guest stars and kept the pictures in a scrapbook.
Hardin later encountered Selleck again and was surprised by how much he remembered about their episode.
"He was so cool. This is such a sweet picture to me because, he’s this very big man, right? And I had such a huge crush on him. And literally, so we have a scene where he like saves, and he hugs me — another thing that they would never do on TV anymore, the detective hugs the 15-year-old streetwalker," Hardin said.
She added, "We have this scene where I’m crying and he’s found me and he’s like, 'Your father’s really worried about you and you need to go home.'"

Melora Hardin recalled filming a memorable hug scene with Tom Selleck on 'Magnum, P.I.'
Hardin recalled filming the scene with Selleck, describing the moment as a memorable experience.
"He hugs me in this big hug, and he’s this giant man with this big barrel chest and he puts his arms around me and hugs me. It’s this big, really good hug because he’s a good hugger," she recalled.
At the time, Selleck and the episode’s director were reportedly happy with the first take. Hardin, however, requested another, prompting laughter from everyone on set.
"The whole crew burst into laughter because they knew that’s why I wanted to do it again," she recalled.
Hardin added, "It was so sweet."
