True crime podcaster Ashleigh Banfield blasted the case of Nancy Guthrie, the missing 84-year-old mother of Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie, as a “mess.”

Ashleigh highlighted on her “Drop Dead Serious” podcast that the now 61-day-old case has become complex because investigators have had to track down numerous contractors and day laborers who had access to the home.

She previously termed the frenzied law enforcement activity at the home as "very strange" and not typical of cases she usually covers.

Ashleigh Banfield claims the case is a 'mess.'

“Can you imagine the number of people that you'd have to find, and then just getting through all of those interviews, the ones who will agree to it? I've got information on how messy that can be in just a moment from a guy who has been to his rodeo before,” Ashleigh said.

She added that insiders tell her the case is in chaos.

“Also when my sources told me about running down the contractors and subcontractors and doing the interviews, the quote was, ‘It's a mess. It's a mess,” she reported.

Ashleigh also noted that the people investigators are tracking down aren’t necessarily from Nancy’s home.

“And that is the list they're running down and doing now: contractors, the subcontractors. And may I remind you, it's not just at Mrs. Guthrie's home,” she said. “There's work being done in all those homes surrounding her house."

The podcaster surmised that workers may have noticed Nancy while on their way to their jobs at neighboring homes.

"People driving by might have seen Mrs. Guthrie, maybe on one of her good days, when she went down to the post box to get her mail, and somebody could have seen that there's a vulnerable woman. There's an older woman. I think I'll scout that out and see if she lives with anybody and see if any of the doors are unlocked at night," she mused.

A source said the scene looked 'untouched.'

Despite the new focus on home improvement workers, Ashleigh noted that Nancy's home was said to be in pristine shape.

"My sources had told me that the home was meticulous. You know, it did not look like there was a crime committed anywhere in that home except for that front entrance inside and outside her front door. A blood pattern that goes from the inside of the front foyer area and the pattern continues the same way to the outside, the front entrance of her doorway, the tiled outdoor area, and then down the front walk," she said.

Even with the blood and masked man at the door, Ashleigh said that the scene looked untouched.

"So, but for that and the man in the ski mask on camera, my sources last week told me in the episode from Saturday, it just didn't look like a crime had been committed there," she added.

Despite a $1 million reward offered by the family, no suspects have been named.

Ashleigh recently reported that a rookie detective was initially leading the case, raising questions about whether crucial early steps were handled correctly.

The Pima County Sheriff's office is analyzing DNA from items found near Nancy's Arizona home, specifically reviewing security footage of the masked man seen on her doorbell camera.

Investigators are reviewing biological evidence from her home and checking if a WiFi jammer was used during the abduction.

Despite Ashleigh earlier implying that Nancy's son-in-law was involved, Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed that all family members have been cleared of suspicion.

Despite a $1 million reward offered by the family, no suspects have been named, and a motive remains unclear, leading to criticism of the investigation.
