Octavia Spencer Apologizes To Britney Spears & Fiancé Sam Asghari After 'Prenup' Remark, Says She Didn't Intend To 'Cause Pain'
Octavia Spencer is making amends with the queen of pop.
After Britney Spears emphatically announced she and longtime beau Sam Asghari were engaged on Sunday, September 12, The Help star advised the Crossroads actress to get a prenuptial agreement.
“Make him sign a prenup,” the 51-year-old commented, which caught the eye of the hunky male model, as he quipped back, "💯", tagging Spencer.
The Oscar winner’s snarky remark went viral and quickly became the most liked comment on the since-deleted engagement post.
After a few days of pondering, Spencer released an apology via social media.
“Y’all, a few days ago Sam and Britney announced their engagement and me being me I made a joke,” she captioned a stunning snap of the newly-engaged duo via Instagram on Wednesday, September 15.

She continued: “My intention was to make them laugh, not cause pain. I’ve reached out to this lovely couple privately to apologize and now want to restore just a smidge of happiness they were robbed of.”
“Britney’s fans have seen her through a lot of pain and she’s found happiness. We’re thrilled for her,” she added, before instructing her followers to show the duo some “love” in the comments section, noting “#nonegativity.”
Asghari responded to the kind gesture, saying, “You are very kind to clarify but I have no hard feelings whatsoever. Jokes and misconceptions come with the territory. 🙏 💯 ❤️.”
Others flooded her post with praise, commenting they knew her joke came from a place of love. “Love you big sis! I knew you were joking cuz I could just hear your voice saying it! But it’s good to clarify when we’re misunderstood, so I commend you for your apology. ❤️,” her Truth Be Told costar Tracie Thoms commented, while many shared heart emojis.
Spears herself though won’t be able to see the heartfelt apology on Instagram, as she suddenly deleted her account on Wednesday, September 14, prompting panic amongst her followers.
Worried fans can breathe a sigh of relief, as a source exclusively spilled to OK! the mom-of-two is only stepping away from social media for the time being. “Britney's Instagram is down temporarily,” the insider dished, adding: “but won't be forever.”
