NEWSA Rocky Start: Olivia Wilde & Harry Styles Face Major Backlash From One Direction Trolls
After Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde went public with their relationship last week, the couple was subjected to some vicious trolling — and was confronted when they were seen outside without face masks on amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The pair was papped together earlier in the week, and Wilde was seen with her mask under her chin, while Styles turned around to speak to their pals without a face covering. In another set of photos, Wilde wore a mask and Styles covered his face with a bandana.
"I adore Harry so so so much but him not wearing a proper mask is disappointing. he was all about preaching saying 'stay home and wear masks' but yet he is spotted what, three days in a row, wearing a bandana? i can care less about Olivia and Harry’s 'relationship.' it’s a pandemic," one fan wrote.
"We! dont! f*****g! care! about! olivia! and! harry! being! papped! we! only! care! about! the! fact! that! he! was! not! wearing! a! f**king! mask! shut! the! f**k! Up!" another said.
"please normalize calling out your f**king favs for being unbelievably selfish and ignorant," they added.
"As someone who lost 3 very dear ppl to Covid i'm very disappointed in Harry right now, not gonna lie," another user wrote.
Fans also dug up old tweets from Styles from earlier on in the pandemic.
"For the safety of yourself and others, please self-isolate. We’re all in this together. I can’t wait to see you out on the road as soon as it’s safe to do so. Until then, treat people with kindness," Styles wrote in March 2020.
"Have you isolated yourself for ... months? because i've seen you running around Italy, london and L.A. like everything's normal," a fan replied to the "Watermelon Sugar" singer.
"This didn’t age well at all, practice what you preach, you can’t say this and travel since the beginning of the pandemic, then hold hands with Olivia, not even wear a proper mask, and attend a wedding with 16 people, that my friends is called hypocrisy," another said.
Wilde was also subjected to vicious comments from fans of the One Direction alum after she posted a New Year's meme of The Ramones.
"I know Harry has a thing for older women not a mummy with 2 babies... YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF WHAT YOU'RE DOING... DATING A BOY WHO'S WORKING FOR YOU!" one fan commented.
"So… Harry Styles got the part because he sleeps with the director? LOL," another wrote.
"And now we know how he got the part in the film... Did you sleep with Harry and you gave him the part? and you split with your husband bcoz you want to date harry?" a third fan added.
However, many One Direction fans came to Wilde’s defense.
"Clearly some of you in the comments have forgotten to TREAT PEOPLE WITH KINDNESS!!!! On behalf of the SANE Harry stans, I'm sorry and this is embarrassing," one told Wilde.
"Where's the treat people with kindness? leave her alone. she has done nothing. i'm so sorry for all the hate oh my god," another apologized.
"Jesus christ please leave her alone.. Olivia bby i'm so sorry about these comments ily queen... LEAVE HER ALONE," a user added.
Styles and Wilde reportedly hit it off on the set of the film following Wilde’s split from her longtime fiancée, Jason Sudeikis. Wilde has reportedly introduced Styles to her children, Otis and Daisy, whom she shares with Sudeikis.
