Whitney Port’s sartorial design strategy has a lot of you in mind. Not only does she hope to expand her collection, Whitney Eve, with more stylish sweatpants (yes, she said that, and she’s clearly a gal’s BFF), Whitney has taken the time to launch a tote bag project with Diet Coke that allows the consumers of America to pick the items they want to see sold in stores. As a part of Diet Coke’s Tastemaker’s Project, Whitney has designed four bubbly totes for fans to vote on. The design that gets the most votes by June 15th will be featured in Target stores across the country!
We caught up with Whitney and got to deets on her collaboration with Diet Coke, got her opinion on Rihanna’s CFDA dress, and even quizzed her on some of the most stylish movies and MEN in Hollywood! Check it out below.
OK! Magazine: What’s the Diet Coke Tastemaker’s Project all about?
Whitney Port: I designed four different tote bags. You can go to DietCokeTastemakersProject.com and actually vote on the design and the winning design will actually be featured in Target stores nationwide. When you buy diet coke, you get a tote bag! So it’s just a really fun way to engage with people who love fashion and love Diet Coke. When you vote, you’re automatically are entered to win a chance to come hang out with me during fashion week and a bunch of other cool prizes.
OK!: Where did you get your inspiration for the designs?
WP: Two of them are kind of Cali girl vibes—like beachy, hanging out by the water, sipping on Diet Coke. One is what’s inside a purse deconstructed, so [it's] a really cool illustrated grid of that. And then one is more of a bubbly, peace, love, and happy vibe.
OK!: Are you a big Target shopper?
WP: I love Target.
OK!: What do you always buy when you step in the store?
WP: I love buying the workout clothes there. They make really good sports bras and leggings. And obviously, my diet coke!
OK!: You went to the CFDAs! What did you think about Rihanna’s award and that dress she wore?
WP: I think she’s totally deserving. She sets trends, and she’s not afraid to step outside the boundaries. She doesn’t care about what anyone else thinks. She just always looks different, and I think that’s cool. I thought she looked stunning. It was very risqué, but I thought she looked really beautiful.
OK!: We are big fans of your designs, especially all your fun prints! What do you want to do next?
WP: I think my line is always evolving. For spring, I like to do a lot of color and prints and textures. I think what I am always trying to do is make clothes for every girl to wear, to make things that you are going to accessorize from day to night. I am really trying to focus on casualwear—making your basic sweatpants cool, trendy, and funky.
OK!: We love stylish movies. Do you have a favorite movie you look to for inspiration?
WP: I feel like that yellow dress that Kate Hudson wore in How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days always sticks out in my mind. It’s so pretty. It’s so simple but so pretty. I think that was a really big fashion moment.
OK!: We’re always talking about the most stylish ladies in Hollywood. Who do you think is one of the most stylish men in Hollywood?
WP: I think Ryan Gosling is pretty stylish. I like his look. He’s rugged but polished.
OK!: What’s one thing we should all have in our closet?
WP: I would say a great pair of black leggings or black skinny pants. I have these leggings from my line that have a cool snake texture and this faux leather paneling, and I feel like you can wear them with so many different things!
OK!: What about in our handbags?
WP: Probably some perfume, like a roll-on or a little spritz.
