'Woke' Britney Spears Divides Fans With Controversial Post In Support Of Black Lives Matter Movement — See Reactions
Pop icon Britney Spears usually steers clear of controversy on her social media — generally posting clips of her dancing, selfies with her boyfriend, Sam Asghari, or uplifting quotes. However, she recently shared a post supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, creating quite the stir amongst her followers.
On Monday, April 19 — the first day of jury deliberations in the trial of Derek Chauvin, the former police officer currently facing murder charges for the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minn., on May 25, 2020 — the “Oops!... I Did It Again” singer posted an image in support of the Black community.
The black-and-white photo Spears shared was of a Black man sitting on what looked like an empty bus, holding a sign that read, "White people have generational wealth. Black people have generational trauma. #WeAreNotTheSame. #BLM." She captioned the post, “Just sayin’ 🗣🗣🗣!!!! #BlackLivesMatter #BLM.”
The post sparked praise among some of her followers, hailing “woke Britney” and thanked her for “speaking up” while other celebrities remained quiet on the controversial issue. “Queen of joining the movement!!!! #BLM,” a user wrote, while another commented: “Britney!! Yes I didn’t think I could love you more!!! Thank you for this. Britney for President!”

Her message of support was also met with some backlash, with one fan begging her to “please don’t go down this rabbit hole,” while a flood of fans threatened to unfollow the queen of pop.
"I mean – this is literally not true," one person replied to the post. "This is called profiling which is also racist." Another added, "So now we are labeling people based on skin color which is literally what we are supposedly trying not to do?" A swarm of white people bombarded the “Toxic” songstress with messages wondering where all their supposed "generational wealth" was.
"White person here and I also have generational trauma. Ignorant thing to post," a user commented, while another added that "not all white people have generational wealth and personally I have generational trauma. Hurts to see this." A third said, “I knew I covered your tattoo up for a reason,” with several sheep emojis, insinuating that Spears is a person who likes anything and everything that is trending to be cool.
Others simply stated that if Spears felt so strongly about the movement and her post, she should “donate” all her money to the cause. The singer has an estimated net worth of $60 million, according to Forbes.
