Cameron Diaz Feels 'Whole' After Retiring From Acting, Says She Wanted To Make Her 'Life Manageable'
Cameron Diaz is opening up about why decided to retire from acting, revealing she now has full control of her life after taking a step back from the Hollywood glitz and glam.
While speaking to Kevin Hart during her appearance on the comedian's Hart to Heart talk show, the Sex Tape actress explained she was so focused on her career that she lost control of her life outside of acting.
She candidly shared: "When you do something at a really high level for a long period of time," it's hard to focus on anything else. The 48-year-old explained that every other part of her life, including her finances on her home, was handled by other people because she had to put all her energy into her role as a Hollywood star.
"When you're the person who's sort of delivering on this one thing — you're the person on the screen, you're the person who's 'the talent' — everything around you, all parts of you that isn't that, has to be handed off to other people," Diaz told Hart.
The actress admitted she felt that she and her name were not one and the same, explaining: "Cameron Diaz is a machine." Meanwhile, Diaz realized that the one part of herself, which "was functioning at a high level," wasn't enough for her in life.
Although she loves acting and "could go forever," Diaz reached a point where she couldn't handle parts of her own life because "it was so big."
The Other Woman star — who revealed in 2018 that she "actually retired" — also explained she felt there were people who were managing her life that didn't have her best interest at heart. Diaz emphasized how important the people one surrounds themselves with are, saying it's hard to figure out who has the best intentions when life is moving so fast.

"I really do think it's about the people you have in your life that can help you keep things moving," the blonde beauty said. "And I had some amazing people, and I had some people who were not serving my best interests always."
However, she said, per BuzzFeed News: "you don't have time to figure those things out if you are just going, going, going, going with blinders on."
At the end of the day, Diaz just "wanted to make [her] life manageable by [her]," and has been loving life since taking control of every part of it. "My routine in a day is literally what I can manage to do by myself. It's the best feeling. I feel whole," she admitted.
Since stepping back from acting, she and husband Benji Madden welcomed their daughter, Raddix, in 2019. And since she doesn't have to worry about memorizing lines or being on set, Diaz has been able to spend time with her family.
In an interview with Yahoo Finance earlier this year, the retired actress gushed over her family life, calling it the "most fulfilling thing" she's ever done. "[To] have a family and be married and have our little nucleus of a family — it's just completely the best thing," Diaz declared.
Even if she wanted to get back into acting, Diaz insisted she doesn’t have "what it takes" anymore because "all of [her] energy" is in being a mom and wife.
