A woman who "vanished with a trace" from a small Arizona town 32 years ago has been found alive.
Christina Marie Plante was 13 when she disappeared from Star Valley, about 90 miles northeast of Phoenix, according to press release published by the Gila County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday, April 1.
Plante, now 44, was last seen leaving her home on May 15, 1994. She was reportedly heading out on a walk to visit her horse at a nearby stable.
Authorities Couldn't Figure Out What Happened to Christina Marie Plante

Christina Marie Plante's case went cold.
"At the time of her disappearance, extensive searched efforts were conducted involving local law enforcement, volunteers and regional resources," the update read.
"Despite exhaustive ground searches, interviews and investigative follow-up, no viable leads were developed," it further explained.
While the case remained unsolved for decades, the formation of the Gila County Sheriff's Office Cold Case Unit and technological advances "ultimately led to a breakthrough."

It's not known how exactly she was discovered to be alive.
"Investigators have confirmed her identity and her status as a missing person has officially been resolved," the press release stated.
The Gila County Sheriff's Office added that Plante's case highlighted "the importance of cold case review initiatives and the impact of evolving technology in brining long-awaited answers to families and communities."
It's unclear at this time what happened to Plante on that spring day in the early '90s.

Christina Marie Plante vanished from Star Valley, Ariz.
Authorities cited "respect for Christina's privacy and well-being" as reasoning for why they weren't releasing more details.
One member of a true crime Reddit thread about the update speculated, "My assumption is that either the perpetrator died, or she's the sole witness and doesn't want to discuss it in court."
"Maybe she was running away from something," another person wrote, while a third account added that perhaps she was "groomed" into doing so.
Christina Marie Plante Lived Less Than 3 Hours From Nancy Guthrie

Nancy Guthrie has been missing since January 31.
"There were plenty of runaways in rural Arizona back then," someone else chimed in.
The case and the aforementioned comment calls to mind the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, who mysteriously vanished from her desert home in Tucson, Ariz., not far from where Plante lived.
Today star Savannah Guthrie 's 84-year-old mother was reported missing on February 1, and is believed to be the victim of a "targeted kidnapping."
Details of Nancy Guthrie's Disappearance

The 84-year-old is thought to have been abducted.
She was last seen the night before by family members she had dinner with.
Authorities quickly determined based on evidence at the scene, including blood splatter outside remote home, that she had been abducted in the wee hours of that Sunday.
Moreover, a terrifying masked suspect was notably captured on Nancy's front porch via her doorbell camera around the time she went missing.
The family is offering a $1 million reward for information that leads to her "recovery."
