'Degrassi' And 'Soundtrack' Star Jahmil French Dead At 29 — Costars Pen Heartbreaking Tributes
Jahmil French, the actor who played Dave Turner on the long-running series Degrassi and Dante Sands in Soundtrack, passed away at 29, according to his costars. His cause of death has yet to be revealed.
Soundtrack creator Joshua Safran broke the news one day after French's tragic death on Monday, March 1, writing: “I can confirm my good friend, co-worker, and all around inspiration, Jahmil French, passed away yesterday.
“Only posting because I see the story getting out there. I will have more to say about him later," he added. "Right now we’re all just processing this devastating news.”
French's other pals have since taken to social media to pay tribute to the late actor. Cristine Prosperi, who played Imogen Moreno on Degrassi, tweeted: "My heart is so heavy.. Truly one of a kind. Rest In Peace 🕊," and French's onscreen love, Melinda Shankar, who played Alli Bhandari on the series, shared a series of sweet photos of the two on Instagram.
"@jahmilfrench you will always hold such a special place in my heart. Thank you for being one of the most talented, compassionate, kindest, funniest friends I have," she captioned her heartfelt post. “You were so loved. Sharing some of my fav pics over the years to highlight his bright light. I’ll miss our dance offs. #Bhandurner forever.”
Fellow costars Luke Bilyk commented red heart emojis on Shanker's post while Jessica Tyler wrote, "Family forever." Degrassi's Annie Clark also responded: "These pics ❤️ What a special person he was," and paid tribute to the beloved actor on her own respective social media page.

Clark shared a heartwarming video of French dancing while an audience cheered him on. "Heartbroken over the loss of our friend Jahmil French. This video is how I’ll always think of him," she wrote alongside the video. "So full of energy and fun. He was always dancing. A true talent and a great friend. We will all miss you so much Jahmil."

French's last Instagram post, which he captioned with a smiley face, was on January 18 and featured him smiling from ear to ear. After hearing of his passing, Soundtrack co-star Christina Milian returned to his final post and commented: "You will be missed. 😢 Rest peacefully King."
