The reboot is falling in line with the original HIMYM, which over the course of a decade from 2005-2015 saw Bob Saget narrating Ted Mosby (Josh Randor) telling his children about how he met their mother and the lives of Barney (Neil Patrick Harris), Robin (Cobie Smulders), Marshall (Jason Segel) and Lily (Alyson Hannigan) when they were young. However, it is not known if the revival will directly tie into the original show, which aired on CBS.

"As a huge fan of How I Met Your Mother, I’m honored and even a little nervous that [creators] Carter [Bay] and Craig [Thomas] would trust me with the sequel of their baby," Duff said in Hulu’s press release. "Just fangirling over here getting to join the Hulu Originals and 20th families. I realize these are big shoes to fill and I’m excited to slip my 6 ½’s in there!"

"We are beyond excited to be bringing How I Met Your Father to Hulu," writers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger said in a statement.

The statement continued, "Carter and Craig’s iconic original series revolutionized the half-hour comedy, and we are so honored to be carrying the torch forward for the next generation — and with Hilary Duff no less! We can’t wait for audiences to meet Sophie and her crew, and watch them come into their own and find love in modern-day New York City. And we hope nobody thinks it’s weird that Bob Saget will be playing old Hilary Duff’s voice."

However, some fans were hoping for a Lizze McGuire reboot on Hulu instead; Disney+ canceled the Lizzie McGuire revival after a production pause.

"I’d be doing a disservice to everyone by limiting the realities of a 30-year-old’s journey to live under the ceiling of a PG rating," Duff explained in December. "It’s important to me that just as her experiences as a preteen/teenager navigating life were authentic, her next chapters are equally as real and relatable. It would be a dream if Disney would let us move the show to Hulu, if they were interested, and I could bring this beloved character to life again."

"What if the Lizzie McGuire reboot and the How I Met Your Mother spin-off are the same show," another joked, while a third fan wrote: "Sure, there’s gonna be haters, but as someone that grew up on Lizzie McGuire and HIMYM am I pumped? Abso-wait for it-lutely."

A premiere date for How I Met Your Father has not been released.
