After she and husband Matthew Koma's iconic date night out with the How I Met Your Father star's former boyfriend Joel Madden and wife Nicole Richie — Duff, 34, took to Instagram on Wednesday, February 9, to post a hilarious snap that left her followers a bit confused.
"Date night part 2," the Lizzie McGuire actress jokingly wrote alongside a photoshopped picture of the same group from the first night out — including Koma, Madden, Richie, Pete Wentz and girlfriend, Meagan Camper, as well as Pulse Music Group founder Josh Abraham and his wife, Gina.
The friendly former partners and their respective spouses made headlines over the weekend after snaps were posted to Instagram by Abraham of the four couples doing signature prom poses while dining at Scratch Bar & Kitchen in Los Angeles along with the caption “New band alert."
The hang out raised eyebrows as Duff and the Good Charlotte rocker, 42, dated for two and a half years — when the former Disney star was 16 and Madden was 25 — before splitting in 2006.
The "Dance Floor Anthem (I Don't Wanna Be in Love)" musician told People in 2007 (shortly after their split) that he has not always thought it was a great idea to be friends with your exes. “I don’t see the necessity to be friends with anyone you’ve dated but definitely out of respect of the time, you have to be kind of respectful and that’s what I try to do," Madden stated.
The lead vocalist shortly after got into a relationship with the Simple Life star, 40, — with whom he shares daughter Harlow Madden, 14, and son Sparrow Madden, 12. The couple officially tied the knot in 2010.
Duff later married hockey player Mike Comrie — with whom she has a son Luca Cruz Comrie, 9 — in 2010 before splitting in 2016.
The Cinderella Story star then began dating the songwriter, 34, in 2017 welcoming son Banks, 3, and daughter Mae, 10. The pair tied the knot in 2019.
