When discussing how Donald Trump told him to take time off after the birth of his baby, J.D. Vance appeared to contradict his pro-life views.

Vice President J.D. Vance told Fox News host Laura Ingraham that President Donald Trump called him on the first full day after his newborn son, Alec, was born to insist he take immediate time off, but his account of the conversation actually revealed something else that seemed to contradict one of his staunchest beliefs as a pro-lifer.
“The president called me the first full day Alec was alive, the day he was born, and he says, 'You should take some time off.' And I said, 'Mr. President, I've got a meeting with you tomorrow. And he said, 'Yeah. Take some time off. Like today.' Hahahahah!" the 42-year-old Republican presidential hopeful spilled.
Following the interview, Usha Vance, 42, and baby Alec briefly joined the set, where the TV star noted the newborn smiled for the first time that morning.

The baby, Alec Neel Vance, is the fourth child for J.D. and Usha and marks the first baby born to a sitting U.S. vice president in over 150 years.
The clip of J.D. admitting his boss didn’t exactly want to meet with him sparked immediate commentary from social media critics, with one noting, “Even TACO doesn’t like J.D.,” referring to Donald by the nickname acronym that stands for “Trump Always Chickens Out.”
However, it was his odd reference to his newborn, saying, “On the first full day Alec was alive,” that really raised eyebrows.
Did J.D. Vance Contradict His Pro-Life Views?
The pro-life VP was called out for saying his son wasn't 'alive' until he was born.
The vice president firmly believes that unborn life is sacred, worthy of protection and begins before birth.
During his 2022 Senate campaign, his absolute stance against abortion aligned directly with the belief that a fetus is a human life from its earliest stages, leading him to advocate for making abortion illegal nationally.

“His baby wasn’t alive until he was born?” wondered one in a nod to Republican anti-abortion talking points that life begins at conception.
“'The first full day Alec was alive.' So, he doesn't believe that life begins at conception. Good to know,” agreed another.
“Wait! 'The first full day Alec was alive.' But, but I thought life begins at conception! Or is that just fodder for the rubes?” wondered another.
“A win is a win, Democrats. The VP just said his son was ‘alive for a full day.’ We’ve been saying this since before Roe v. Wade was passed. And although Republicans gutted it. We will codify it soon enough. I digress. A win is a win! Thanks @VP @JDVance,” exclaimed another.
Usha Vance has not shared her opinion on abortion.
Usha has largely kept her personal political views, including her stance on abortion, private. She has not publicly declared herself pro-choice or pro-life.
She was, however, previously registered as a Democrat until around 2014, but later registered as a Republican and voted for her husband, a prominent opponent of abortion rights.
In interviews, she stated she does not feel pressured to conform to specific policy ideas and that her views are sometimes idiosyncratic. However, she said she supports her husband's career despite the two sometimes not seeing eye to eye.
