How Did Jennifer Lopez Get The Nickname J.Lo? Superstar Reveals How Her Famous Moniker Came To Be
Many artists are now known as a combo of their first and last name together, such as Scarlett Johansson being called ScarJo, or Alex Rodriguez being referred to as A-Rod, but it was superstar Jennifer Lopez who started the trend.
Lopez recently revealed how her famed moniker “J.Lo” came to be. The 51-year-old told InStyle that her nickname was inspired by the late rapper Heavy D during the production of her first album On the 6 — which spawned hit singles “If You Had My Love” and “Waiting For Tonight” — released in 1999.
“[Heavy D] used to come by the studio for my first studio album and would call me Jenny-Lo, Jennifer-Lo, or J.Lo,” she said. The name didn’t really start to gain traction until Lopez publicly claimed it. “When I was doing my second album, I decided to call it J.Lo, and I believe that’s when it really stuck!” the singer added.
After three decades of entertaining the world and breaking the internet with her jaw-dropping physique and incredible fashion sense, Lopez considers herself to be “living a dream” that she’s “grateful” for every day, she told the outlet. The Selena actress credits her “amazing team” who help her “professionally and personally” who have helped shape her into the worldwide sensation she is today. She also noted that having “great people around you” is the most important thing in life.

Lopez is needing her team of supporters now more than ever after her relationship with MLB legend Rodriguez hit a rough patch. After the baseball pro's name was thrown into drama involving Southern Charm’s Madison LeCroy, his engagement to the “Papi” singer seemed to be at a standstill. However, Rodriguez immediately flew down to the Dominican Republic — where Lopez is working on a film — after rumors of a split surfaced.
Pictures shortly emerged of the pair all lovey-dovey and kissing after their reunion. However, an insider dished that “their makeout sessions are totally staged,” and when “no one is looking, they tone it down.”
The source claimed that Lopez and Rodriguez “want everyone to believe they’re still the perfect couple,” but in reality, Lopez “feels humiliated and is struggling to forgive Alex” for his rumored indiscretions.
As OK! previously reported, Lopez and Rodriguez declared they were making their relationship work amid reports that the two had called it quits, and a source exclusively told OK! that the power couple are wasting no more time and “moving full speed ahead” with their wedding plans, adding that a surprise ceremony “could happen in the next few weeks.”
