John Mulaney's Claim That He Didn't Want Kids When Married To Anna Marie Tendler Resurfaces After Girlfriend Olivia Munn Pregnancy News
While John Mulaney is "really, really happy" about the expected arrival of his and girlfriend Olivia Munn's first child together, estranged wife Anna Marie Tendler may not be as thrilled — given that the comedian said he wasn't open to the idea of expanding their family when they were still together.
In 2019, when the former Saturday Night Live writer still seemed to be happily married to Tendler, he told Entertainment Weekly, per Page Six, he was prioritizing his career over becoming a father.
“They’re great, but I love what I do,” the 39-year-old candidly said of kids at the time. “And I love my wife and spending so much time with her and we have a really fortunate life. I get to travel, do stand-up, and our relationship is so wonderful. It’s just something I wouldn’t want to change."
Although Mulaney didn't have any plans to welcome a little one, he shared a parenting philosophy he believed in — which he may use after he and Munn welcome their bun in the oven.
While promoting his kid-friendly Netflix special, John Mulaney & The Sack Lunch Bunch, Mulaney said he didn't think parents should talk down to children, noting that form of communication never helped him as a youngster.
“When I see people interact with kids, I was always like, ‘Why are you talking down to them?'” Mulaney said. “‘Why are you crouching on the floor talking in a high voice?’ I don’t recall needing that as a kid."

The handsome hunk said he believed in having an "open conversation" with kids rather than depending on articles titled "What should we tell our kids?" and "What are our kids thinking?"
Less than two years after Mulaney's interview with EW, the soon-to-be father asked Tendler for divorce and officially filed the paperwork in July. While the decision to end their marriage was reportedly not mutual, Tendler said she wishes her estranged husband "support and success as he continues his recovery."
As OK! reported, Mulaney ended the former flames' six-year marriage in May, shortly after his 60-day rehab stint for his struggle with substance abuse. The funnyman was first linked to Munn days after his split from Tendler made headlines, and the two have been "head over heels" for each other ever since, spilled an OK! source.
Mulaney confirmed on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Tuesday, September 7, that the power couple is expecting their first baby together. While discussing his past rollercoaster year with his substance abuse and split from Tendler, Mulaney announced the exciting baby news.
He said he was very lucky to have met the New Girl alum before sharing: "She's kind of held my hand through that hell, and we're having a baby together."
"I'm gonna be a dad!" Mulaney gushed, adding: "We're both really, really happy."
