'Just A Total Lack Of Trust': Justin Bieber Admits His First Year Of Marriage With Wife Hailey Was 'Really Tough'
Justin Bieber may seem to have a picture-perfect marriage with Hailey Bieber, but in a new interview with GQ, the pop star revealed it wasn't always rock solid.
In the May issue of the men's publication, the “Peaches” singer recounted the trials and tribulations the couple faced in their first year of marriage and revealed there were trust issues within the relationship.
"The first year of marriage was really tough because there was a lot going back to the trauma. There was just a lack of trust," he told GQ. "There was all these things that you don't want to admit to the person that you're with, because it's scary. You don't want to scare them off by saying, 'I'm scared.'”
While facing these issues with his supermodel wife, the 27-year-old said he turned to his faith for guidance.
"I came to a place where I just was like, 'God, if you're real, I need you to help me, because I can't do this on my own. Like, I'm struggling so hard. Every decision I make is out of my own selfish ego,'” he said.
In the interview, the "Yummy" singer admitted he didn't have a good example of a healthy family life when he first tied the knot. His parents, Jeremy Bieber and Pattie Mallette, never married and his mother worked a series of low-paying office jobs, raising her son as a single mom in low-income housing.

“My whole life, I had a broken family. And so I was just attracted to a family that eats dinners together, laughs together, talks together," he said.
The Canadian crooner said he credits Hailey for helping him heal his childhood wounds and giving him the security he'd always yearned for.
"Before, I didn’t have that to look forward to in my life. My home life was unstable. Like, my home life was not existing," he explained. "I didn't have a significant other. I didn't have someone to love. I didn't have someone to pour into. But now I have that."
The Biebers got engaged in July 2018 on a romantic trip to the Bahamas and tied the knot two months later at a New York City courthouse. The following year, they hosted a larger wedding celebration with friends and family in South Carolina.
"I just felt like that was my calling. Just to get married and have babies and do that whole thing he," he said.
But don't expect a baby Biebs to be announced anytime soon. When asked when he and the 24-year-old will be adding a little one to their family, the musician replied, “Not this second, but we will eventually.”
