Meghan Markle Hired Oprah Winfrey's Party Planner For 'Low-Key' 40th Birthday Bash, Source Spills
Meghan Markle is taking full advantage of her new friendship with talk show titan Oprah Winfrey.
The Duchess has reportedly hired Winfrey’s favorite party planner, Colin Cowie, to plan her 40th birthday bash, which is expected to be held at the former actress' Montecito, Calif., mansion. Many A-list celebs are expected to attend the “low-key” soiree. (Markle’s landmark birthday is on August 4.)
“Meghan wants a small gathering. About 65 people are invited, her closest friends and family,” a source spilled to The Mirror, adding why the famed party planner was chosen for the milestone event. “Colin was recommended to her by Oprah who always puts on fabulous parties.”
Markle’s husband Prince Harry has reportedly ordered a cake from local bakery Posies & Sugar for the big day, where a three-tiered cake runs around $225. Its set to be a casual affair, where guests will be treated to “grazing tables” during the gathering, which will consist of locally sourced foods and wines.
Cowin has planned extravagant parties for many celebs, including Jennifer Aniston, Tom Cruise, Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian.

It's likely that Winfrey scored an exclusive invite to the celebration following the Duke and Duchess’ intimate chat with the iconic talk show host in March. As OK! previously reported, the former royals made explosive allegations against the monarchy, even accusing some of the royal family of being racist after they questioned the color of baby Archie’s skin.
The Suits alum is no stranger to throwing over-the-top parties: During her pregnancy with Archie, she hosted a star-studded baby shower in 2019 that cost nearly $300,000.
Although the stunning soirée included a slew of Markle’s high-profile gal pals — including Serena Williams, Amal Clooney and Jessica Mulroney — OK! learned that the monarchy was not pleased with the gauche affair.
Royal insiders claimed that members of the palace were repulsed and spit "out their tea" over the Duchess of Sussex's tacky baby shower, going as far to call the party “trashy.”
