Nick Reiner is accused of brutally slaying his parents in their California home on December 14, 2025.

Nick also faces a special allegation that he used a dangerous and deadly weapon. The indictment was returned on July 20, but wasn't unsealed until Wednesday, August 12, per Fox News.

"This was a profound betrayal by someone who was loved and trusted by the very people he is accused of killing," Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said in a statement obtained by the outlet. "The indictment unsealed today also adds a special circumstance allegation that the defendant committed the murders by means of lying in wait. We hope that by having a grand jury return an indictment in this case it will bring us one step closer to a trial and achieving justice."

Family insiders claimed that Michele Reiner was at her 'wits end' with her son before the brutal slayings.

Nick was known to have battled severe mental health and substance abuse issues in the years before allegedly taking a knife to his parents' throats.

His substance abuse issues reportedly became too much for his parents, as a family source told TMZ that Michele had been at her "wits' end" with her son before he allegedly killed her and Rob.

"We tried everything," an insider said she told friends.

A separate source claimed that Nick "hated himself for not being as talented, prolific or beloved as his dad or grandad" and "really resented" Rob as a result.
