Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock's 'Practical Magic 2' Poster Slammed as 'Low Budget' by Critics Ahead of Film Release: 'Thought It Was AI'

Fans slammed Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock's new Practical Magic 2 poster as "cheap" and "airbrushed" ahead of the highly anticipated sequel's debut.

The follow-up to their iconic 1998 film comes out on September 11. While buzz was originally positive for the witchy sequel, one piece of promotional material had fans stopping in their tracks.

The poster featured Kidman and Bullock's profiles side-by-side over a black background surrounded by gold flecks and moody lighting. In the bottom left-hand corner, new cast members Joey King and Maisie Williams posed together in black dresses in front of the film's iconic house.

Fans who may have otherwise been excited about the flick were quick to criticize the poster on X.

"That poster won't sell you extra tickets," one commenter criticized. "It's way down in the uncanny valley. Do yourselves a favor and change it."

"Thought it was fan-made with AI," another cringed, with a third adding, "It's giving low budget."

"Airbrushed to heaven and back," a fourth commented, while someone else called the poster "cheap."

"This is one of the worst posters I’ve ever seen omg," another wrote.

The sequel will follow Bullock and Kidman's original witches, Sally and Gillian Owens, as Sally's daughters uncover dark family secrets and tap into powers of their own.

In addition to the poster critiques, some were upset over the casting choices for the next generation of witches, played by King and Williams.

Bullock's onscreen daughters, Kylie and Antonia, will not be played by their original actresses, Evan Rachel Wood and Alexandra Artrip. Wood admitted she's "sad" not to be included but understood the decision.

"I think, in the book, it would have made sense to bring me back," she told Entertainment Tonight. "I think in the way they’re approaching it, the way they’re doing it, it didn’t make sense."

Fans reacted to the snub by leaving comments under The Kissing Booth star's post of behind-the-scenes shots from set.

"Really disappointed in the casting choice here…ZERO reason the original actresses aren’t playing the adult daughters. These two as the daughters…NOPE! Granddaughters, sure. Guess divas will be divas," one person commented under the Instagram upload.

"Genuinely don’t understand why they didn’t keep the original cast. Truly sucks," a second chimed in. "I’m sure it’ll be a good movie, but to not even offer the original cast an opportunity to come back is a huge misstep. These people are on our screen all the time."

"You being in this movie instead of the original daughters… kinda ruined this for me," a third wrote.

The project was announced in 2025, with Bullock and Kidman each gushing over their excitement to return to the fictional town in Massachusetts, regardless of fans' criticisms.

"We're so excited. Yes, yes, beyond excited," Kidman said at the time. "You heard our spell. We put out our spell already."
