Queen Elizabeth II's Camilla Parker Bowles Consort Announcement 'Couldn't Wait' Until Prince Charles Was King: The Timing 'Had To Be Right,' Source Spills
Queen Elizabeth II's controversial announcement about her wish for Camilla Parker Bowles to be named Queen Consort when Prince Charles one day takes the throne had to be perfectly timed, according to a royal insider.
Her Majesty shared her "sincere wish" that Camilla take on the title of Queen Consort, "as she continues her own loyal service," when "my son Charles becomes King" during her Platinum Jubilee announcement over the weekend.
"They couldn't wait until Charles was actually King — it had to come from the Queen herself," the source explained to People. "Now was a good time because of the Jubilee — it was almost tailor-made for this timing."
Prince William and Prince Harry's father has apparently been preparing for this announcement for years, as he planned to have his wife beside him as Queen for his coronation. However, when asked about further details into Charles' coronation, a spokesperson for Clarence House told the outlet, "The detailed planning for a coronation begins at the point of accession. So there are no plans of this nature at this stage."

Speculation surrounding whether Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall would be titled Princess or Queen had been swirling for a while, as she did not take Princess Diana's former title as the Princess of Wales when she and Charles wed.
The couple's 2005 wedding was highly controversial given their affair during the 73-year-old's marriage to the late royal, who died in 1997 following a car crash in Paris. Camilla was also married to her first husband, Andrew Parker Bowles, at the time. Given that she was a divorced woman on top of being involved in royal scandal, it was presumed she would be known as Princess Consort rather than Queen Consort.
Royal expert Jack Royston pointed out Camilla was going to be known as Princess Consort in the first place since the royal family had been "emotionally indifferent to Diana," given her untraditional ways. However, the queen seemed to be making a statement by naming Camilla Queen, as it showed respect towards Diana.
"[Diana] was suffering and they didn’t care. And what this did, it was a sacrifice, bear in mind, the Queen has always seen service as being a sacrifice, this was a sacrifice out of respect for Diana that showed the world that the Royal family do care, and it wasn’t going to be business as usual after Diana died," the royal expert insisted.
