'Leave Me Out of It': Suge Knight Refuses to Testify in Tupac Murder Trial — Despite Being Only Living Eyewitness to 1996 Drive-by Assassination

Suge Knight has refused to testify in Tupac Shakur's murder trial despite being the only living witness to his killing.

The 61-year-old is serving a 28-year prison sentence for a fatal hit-and-run in 2015, as jury selection for Shakur's trial is set to begin on August 10 in Las Vegas.

Knight was in the driver's seat 20 years ago in Las Vegas when Duane "Keffe D" Davis allegedly gave his Crips gang the go-ahead to gun Shakur down in retaliation for a fight. He died from his injuries six days later.

Since his friend's 1996 death, Knight has maintained that the murder trial has "nothing to do with [him]."

"This trial has nothing to do with me and if somebody brings me there, it's gonna hurt whoever brings me there," he told ABC News. I promise you that."

"They make me come there against my will, if Keffe D's lawyers bring me there, it don't look good for him," Knight added. "If the prosecution brings me there, it don't look good for them. Leave me out of it."

No charges were filed in connection with Shakur's death for decades, despite Davis allegedly admitting multiple times that he had been responsible for the hip-hop star's demise.

That is, until 2023, when police arrested the 63-year-old after he had retired to the suburbs of Las Vegas. He was charged with murder with the use of a deadly weapon with the intent to promote, further or assist a criminal gang.

Since his arrest, Davis has changed his tune, claiming his previous admissions of guilt were lies. He pleaded not guilty to his role in Shakur's death.

Knight has mused that Davis felt "untouchable" for decades, never thinking that his alleged admissions would come back to bite him.

"He wanted to just talk, talk, talk, talk. He kept talking until they put handcuffs on him," he explained. "Everything he said and talked about, he already told on himself. So what are you going to do? Erase all the recordings of the interviews he did?"

Knight is on a list of potential witnesses to testify against the suspect. Despite his known disdain for the man, loyalty to Shakur and the rival Bloods gang, if the music producer can help it, he will not go on the stand.

"My loyalty to Tupac can never be compromised. Me, as a man, what I believe in can't be compromised," Knight added. "I'm not there to help [Davis], and I'm d--- not there to hurt him,"

Knight added that not only does he believe Davis's past very public discussions of the case will bring his friend justice on their own, but he also doesn't want to be responsible for sending another man to jail.

"Because if you shoot a person in the head, they die once," he clarified. "If you get on the stand and you snitch on that person, they die a million times. I am not going to be responsible for sending another man to prison for the rest of his life. If God's forgiving, who am I to think I'm bigger than God and don't forgive? Because I'm not."

To Knight, Shakur's legacy still lives on, and "not a day goes by" that he doesn't think about him.

"There's not a day that goes by that me, personally, doesn't think about Tupac, or I miss Tupac," Knight confessed. "That's my brother."

"Tupac is not here," he noted. "Well, I wouldn't say he's not here because he's in everybody's mind, and the people who knew him, he's in their heart."
