NBA star Tristan Thompson recently expressed strong support for President Donald Trump, stating, "I love what he’s done so far for our country" and "I think he’s helped our country a lot."

The comments were made in a preview for an upcoming episode of “The Katie Miller Podcast” in which he told the wife of Trump deputy and immigration hardliner Stephen Miller that those who "do the thing the right way and get the papers" should be prioritized.

Former Cleveland Cavaliers player Thompson, who was born in Canada and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2020, praised the administration's crackdown on illegal immigration.

While supporting the overall stance, he noted that the system should be "case by case," acknowledging people he knows who are in "in-between states" with their documentation.

The athlete was recently seen at the White House to discuss NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) deals to protect the financial futures of college athletes.

During this visit, he posted enthusiastically on social media about meeting Vice President J.D. Vance and health secretary RFK Jr., sparking major backlash, with critics pointing out that Tristan is an immigrant. They labeled him hypocritical for supporting stricter immigration measures.

Critics referenced his past public controversies — including cheating allegations and child support disputes — to argue he is an unfit spokesperson for policy issues.

They mocked his politics, with one viral comment noting that even the Kardashian family — Thompson maintains a co-parenting relationship with ex-partner Khloé Kardashian, with whom he has two children — would likely be surprised by his stance.

His latest comments also sparked social media outrage, with one commenter blasting him and saying, “Poor Man, he is now connected to the lowest of the low life forms. He now belongs to Trump’s racist a-- Republican Party.”

Another noted the ominous predictions for the GOP midterm bloodbath, saying, “You know Trumpers are in trouble come the midterms when they start posting comments made by a nobody like Tristan Thompson.”

“Katie, didn’t you ask Tristan if he is an American citizen before the interview because he is Canadian, not American?” quipped another.
