Hilaria Baldwin is opening up about a difficult parenting experience.
The 37-year-old recently posted a candid message detailing the “heart wrenching” conversations she’s had with her oldest children following the fatal shooting on the Rust film set.
Her husband, Alec Baldwin, 63, was filming for the Western film when he misfired a prop gun that was loaded with live ammunition, wounding director Joel Souza and killing 42-year-old cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
As the family continues to make headlines in the aftermath of the tragic October incident, Hilaria has seemingly been tasked with explaining the “recent events” to some of her children.
On Tuesday, November 30, she shared a heartfelt message to her Instagram story to reveal that she has felt “lost” at times while discussing such difficult topics to her kids.
“I’ve had to have some conversations, explaining recent events to my oldest children recently,” she wrote in her post. “You can imagine how heart wrenching it has been.”
She also revealed that she has been in touch with The Child Mind Institute (which helps families with mental health needs) to “guide” her through the process after a friend encouraged her to reach out to the organization.
“Sometimes, I just freeze, knowing I’m the adult, who must guide my family, but so lost as what the right direction is. There is no manual we are provided,” she continued. “Sometimes I catch myself, surprised that I’m in the adult position and I’m like: shouldn’t I know what to do???”

She also mentioned a children’s book called It’s Okay to Not be Okay: Adults Get Feelings Too, which she said helped her “explain the tremendous sadness and heartbreak to my children.”
“You have no idea how much all of your kindness, love and support mean. Yes, you who are reading this. I know how lucky I am to have you,” she concluded.
Hilaria shares six children with the 30 Rock star: Carmen, 8, Rafael, 6, Leonardo, 5, Romeo, 3, Eduardo, 1, and Lucia, who the pair welcomed in March.
The couple recently stopped to confront paparazzi who they claimed were making their children cry by tailing them while the family was holded up in Vermont.
Alec briefly talked to the paps on the side of the road about the Rust disaster and his relationship with Hutchins, who was working as the Director of Photography on the film.
“My kids are in the car crying,” he said, to which Hiliaria added, “Because you guys are following them and they know.”
“We sat down as a courtesy now to talk to you. Now please, would you just not follow us for the rest of...just leave us alone,” the actor pleaded.
Alec has since been hit with multiple lawsuits for the deadly accident, along with other staffers on set, including the assistant director David Halls and lead armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed. It is still unclear who will be deemed responsible for the tragedy.
