Jimmy Fallon Mocks Donald Trump for Having 'Leaks and Shortages' After Missile Report: 'Pretty Normal for an 80-Year-Old Man'

Jimmy Fallon mocked President Donald Trump's declining health on the Thursday, August 6, broadcast of The Tonight Show, delivering a highly targeted punchline following an administration controversy over military munitions, whistleblowers and an alleged brewing feud with embattled Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

Fallon's monologue focused on a Washington Post report detailing a tense Cabinet meeting. In the meeting, Trump reportedly castigated Hegseth.

This occurred after learning the U.S. military is facing severe missile shortages due to Trump's so-called "forever war" with Iran.

While seemingly confirming the feud, Trump fiercely denied the reports publicly with a Truth Social tirade in which he taunted, “The 'leakers' of these treasonous statements are being hunted down.”

Fallon seized the opportunity to dismantle the octogenarian president's aggressive rhetoric with several back-to-back jokes that quickly pointed out the flaw in Trump's warning.

He cracked, "Well, we know one thing: they're not being hunted by missiles. We don't have ‘em.”

The late-night host then pivoted directly to the elderly president's age.

He remarked, "Right now, Trump is dealing with leaks and shortages, which is actually pretty normal for an 80-year-old man.”

“Speaking of the Iran war, it just came out that during a recent Cabinet meeting, President Trump lashed out at Pete Hegseth over the military’s missile shortage,” he said. “And I guess Hegseth thought we had more missiles than we actually did.”

Fallon also took a jab at the Defense Secretary's expense in a nod to Hegseth’s alleged problems with alcohol.

He quipped, "In Hegseth’s defense, when he looks at anything he sees double, so, you know."

The monologue also highlighted minor relief in the region.

It touched upon progress toward a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Fallon joked that it has been closed for so long that it is now being referred to as the "Spirit Halloween of Hormuz," a widely used joke about establishments that go out of business and are temporarily taken over by the costume store.

“That’s the good news. The bad news is it’s been closed for so long, it’s now called the Spirit Halloween of Hormuz,” he joked, adding, “Trump’s excited about the deal. He’s about to hang a huge victory banner reading ‘Everything is back to how it was before I got involved.'”

The five-month-old U.S.-Iran war is widely described by military experts and political analysts as stuck in an escalation trap, with U.S. strategic objectives largely failing to be met despite heavy air and naval campaigns.

While Trump dubiously insisted that the conflict would end "pretty soon" because Tehran cannot sustain it, his administration faces mounting criticism over its lack of a viable exit strategy, a highly disrupted global energy market, and reports of severely depleted U.S. munitions stockpiles.
