Melania Trump Mocked for Applauding Husband Donald's 'Empathy': 'They Are Both a Joke'

Melania Trump sparked widespread laughter and eventual ridicule during a White House event honoring military mothers on Wednesday, May 6, when she praised President Donald Trump for his "empathy.”

The viral moment occurred as Melania was introducing her husband in the East Room, stating, "Most know my husband as the strong commander-in-chief, but his empathy transcends the role and shape of a caring leader.”

Instead of applause, the mention of "empathy" was met with immediate, loud laughter and "awkward coughing" from the gallery.

Donald, standing right beside her, smiled and shrugged in response to the laughter.

In a rare show of emotion, Melania herself broke character and awkwardly laughed mid-sentence before continuing her prepared remarks.

The gathering was intended to honor the sacrifices of military families ahead of Mother's Day.

Critics noted the laughter likely stemmed from the contrast between Melania's description and the president's notorious lack of empathy and his offensive, often violent, and callous rhetoric.

Despite the interruption, the event proceeded with the president thanking his wife for being an "incredible mom" and paying tribute to service members.

The Twittersphere wasn’t as kind.
