Abby Lee Miller Admits Mistake, Apologizes for Misidentifying Doctors in Malpractice Lawsuit

Abby Lee Miller admitted she accidentally sued the wrong doctors in a medical malpractice case tied to a 2020 spinal surgery.

The 60-year-old choreographer filed court documents seeking to remove Dr. Hooman Melamed, Dr. Paul Dwan, and Cedars-Sinai Marina Hospital from the lawsuit after acknowledging that the doctors were not responsible for the medical issue at the center of her claims.

Miller is a former dance instructor and television personality best known for starring in Lifetime's hit reality series Dance Moms, which followed young dancers and their families.

Miller's case involved allegations surrounding a catheter she said remained in her body following surgery.

According to a statement provided to TMZ, Melamed and Dwan "vigorously and consistently maintained that their care and treatment of Ms. Miller met the applicable standard of care."

Miller now acknowledges that neither doctor was responsible for the alleged incident. The actress and dance instructor also agreed to apologize as part of the resolution.

The statement addressed her previous comments about the doctors and clarified her position.

"Ms. Miller expressly acknowledges that any negative past statements made by or on behalf of her regarding the care and treatment provided by Dr. Melamed or Dr. Dwan are retracted and should not be relied upon or repeated by her or anyone acting on her behalf," the statement said.

The doctors also stated that the matter is resolved.

"Dr. Melamed and Dr. Dwan have always remained committed to providing high-quality medical care and to treat every patient with professionalism, compassion, and diligence. Dr. Melamed and Dr. Dwan are pleased to have this matter resolved and remain focused on serving patients and the community," the statement added.

Per TMZ reports, Miller previously filed the lawsuit over a spinal procedure she underwent in 2020.

She said she initially believed the surgery had gone well. However, she later experienced abdominal pain and discomfort and raised those concerns with several medical professionals.

Soon after the checkup, a CT scan eventually revealed what she described in her lawsuit as a "retained catheter."

Miller's claims included medical negligence, professional negligence, and medical battery. She sought at least $1.4 million in damages.

Although both doctors are being removed from the case, Miller's legal fight may not be over.

Her attorney told TMZ that she plans to pursue legal action against other defendants. It remains unclear who those defendants may be or when a new lawsuit will be filed.
