Clint Eastwood is embracing a quieter life after decades in Hollywood.

In recent years, the legendary actor and filmmaker has fueled retirement buzz after staying largely out of the spotlight. When Parade asked him during a 2021 interview whether he planned to retire, Eastwood admitted he "doesn't think so."

"I'm always thinking about what I'm going to do next," he said. "I love to take someone's idea, whether it's a book or a play, and develop it. Maybe others want to make a few movies and then retire, and that's fine. Maybe they have other things to do and keep busy with. I don't. I love movies and I enjoy making them."

Eastwood returned to the spotlight with Cry Macho in 2021 after largely staying out of the public eye during the COVID-19 pandemic.

With questions still surrounding whether he has officially retired, here's everything to know about Eastwood's current status.

Speaking with the French publication France Info in November 2025, the Unforgiven actor's son Kyle Eastwood revealed his father had officially retired from filmmaking.

"I have many fond memories of working with him. Now he's retired, he's 95 years old. But I was very lucky to be able to work with him on quite a few films. It was a great experience for me," Kyle shared.

The interview resurfaced after Scott Eastwood addressed his older brother's comments while promoting his latest film, Lucky Strike.

"We'll see. I have not heard that from his mouth at all," Scott told ScreenRant on June 9. "So I don't know what that feels like. His career in general has been something to admire, something to be inspired by, and continues to inspire me."

He added, "The work, the artistry that he's done on and off screen. Producing, writing, composing, directing, acting. The body of work is incredible."

Clint has not directed or produced another film since 2024's critically acclaimed Juror #2. Meanwhile, his most recent acting role came in 2021's Cry Macho, which he also directed.

In 2025, Austrian media outlet Kurier published an interview claiming that Clint had criticized Hollywood's reliance on remakes, franchises and a lack of original ideas. The Hollywood legend later denounced the piece as "entirely phony," clarifying that he had never spoken with the outlet.

"A couple of items about me have recently shown up in the news," he said in a statement to Deadline. "I thought I would set the record straight. I can confirm I've turned 95. I can also confirm that I never gave an interview to an Austrian publication called Kurier, or any other writer in recent weeks, and that the interview is entirely phony."

Clint's increasingly rare public appearances suggest he has been spending more time away from the Hollywood spotlight. His most recent widely reported public appearance came in March 2024, when he attended the Reasons for Hope event, presented by the Wildlife Conservation Network, in his hometown of Carmel-by-the-Sea, Calif.

A source told the National Examiner in May that the Million Dollar Baby actor "lives his life at an extremely gentle pace these days."

"He's not bedridden, but there's a lot more R&R that's been factored into his routine so he can conserve energy and not push himself unnecessarily," the insider clarified, adding, "He loves being around nature and serenity. Nobody would deny he's earned that luxury."

Clint's longtime girlfriend, Christina Sandera, died in July 2024 at the age of 61.

According to her death certificate, cardiac arrhythmia was the immediate cause of her death, with atherosclerotic coronary artery disease listed as a contributing condition.

After the loss, Scott shared an update on his father, saying he was "doing good."

"He's a survivor, a trouper. He was born coming out of the Great Depression, and then he was young during World War II. He saw a lot of struggle," Scott added of Clint.
