Hoda Kotb sat down with Savannah Guthrie in her first interview since Nancy Guthrie disappeared.

Kotb left the Today show in January 2025 after more than 18 years to spend more time with her young daughters, Haley, 9, and Hope, 7, both of whom she adopted.

The anchor, however, has not been completely absent since leaving more than a year ago. After Guthrie's 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, went missing from her Tucson, Ariz., home on February 1, Savannah took a leave of absence from the show.

Hoda filled in for her friend, making her temporary return to the news desk as Savannah coped with the disappearance of her mother, which just hit the six-month mark.

Savannah Guthrie took a break from the show after her mother disappeared.

Before Savannah returned to the news desk in April, she sat down with Hoda for a televised interview to discuss her mother's shocking disappearance, as officials investigated the idea that she was forcibly removed from her home.

"Someone needs to do the right thing. We are in agony. We are in agony. It is unbearable," she told Hoda during the intimate conversation, begging the public to step forward with any information they may have.

"And to think of what she went through. I wake up every night in the middle of the night, every night," Savannah added. "And in the darkness, I imagine her terror. And it is unthinkable, but those thoughts demand to be thought. And I will not hide my face. But she needs to come home now."

Guthrie is currently taking another break from the Today show to focus on filming the new Wordle game show, which she is set to host. She announced her temporary leave on July 16.

“I’m headed over to shoot Wordle over the next few weeks,” Guthrie explained. “We’re going to shoot the whole season, and we’re super excited. Cannot wait for everyone to see it.”

The show, based on The New York Times word game, was announced in May and is being produced by Jimmy Fallon. It is slated to premiere in 2027.
