Nancy Guthrie Case: FBI Searches 84-Year-Old's Neighborhood Again After Monsoon Ravages the Area, Neighbor Claims

Nancy Guthrie's neighborhood may have been searched again six months after she disappeared.

One of the 84-year-old's neighbors alleged she saw the FBI poking around in the brush around her Tucson, Ariz., home after a monsoon may have shifted the landscape in early August.

The neighbor, who chose to remain anonymous, claimed many of the officials' faces looked familiar and may have scavenged the neighborhood earlier in the investigation.

The Pima County Sheriff's Office, however, said no law enforcement involved in the investigation had recently returned to the area.

A retired Pima County Sheriff's Department lieutenant and SWAT commander spoke to Fox News Digital about what would prompt officials to give the area another look.

"There's a couple of different reasons that go through my mind. First is going to be they got some leads, they got some new tips that are viable, and they're out there looking for something specific or in an area specific to that, because I'm certain that they've searched those areas already," Bob Krygier explained.

He noted that law enforcement may also be interested in getting a second set of eyes on the scene or accounting for potential shifts in the landscape due to seasonal weather patterns.

"About a month ago, monsoon season started here in Tucson and a lot of water has come down — a lot of water at once, and it pushes things," Krygier continued. "So it's moved the environment. Rocks have been pushed away."

Monsoon season in Arizona lasts from June to September and can feature high wind speeds, thunderstorms, flash flooding and dust storms, all of which can overturn rocks, shrubs and grass.

Floodwaters can rise as high as 12 feet, which could potentially sweep away brush, cars or people, possibly churning out new evidence in the investigation.

Savannah Guthrie's mother was reported missing on February 1 after she failed to show up to a church meeting that morning.

Investigators believe she was forcibly removed from her home after seeing a suspicious masked figure on her doorbell camera.

The Pima County Sheriff's Office released a statement at the six-month mark of her disappearance, urging anyone who recognized the figure's mannerisms to contact investigators.

"Two videos recovered from Nancy’s doorbell camera may be from two separate days. These videos are critical to our understanding of the unidentified male’s behaviors and choices," the statement read. "They indicate he took steps to prepare for the event on the night of January 31 to February 1."

"We are asking for the public’s continued assistance and are confident that you can further the effort," they added. "We know there are individuals familiar with this unidentified male who may have observed changes in his behavior around the timeframe of the videos."

An alleged ransom note sent in the week after she went missing claimed the elderly woman had passed away just days after she was taken due to a heart condition.

"We did not fully grasp the seriousness of her physical conditions," the message read. "We never intended to hurt her; that was not our intention. She perished shortly after she was taken. We believe it was heart-related."

"She is buried in nature now," the note continued. "Nothing you could have done could have changed the outcome. We want your family to know this and hope you all can find peace. We are truly sorry."
