Prince Charles Was Always 'Closer' With Harry Than William, Family Rift 'Hit Him Quite Hard': Royal Expert

Talk about royal pain. Prince Charles has been particularly devastated about the family feud with Prince Harry since the two had such a close bond — even closer than that of Charles and eldest son Prince William's, claimed a royal expert.

Author Robert Jobson speculated the Prince of Wales has had trouble coming to terms with the 36-year-old's move to the U.S. with wife Meghan Markle and vocal criticism of the royals — which first began when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex sat down with Oprah Winfrey several months ago.

"I think that [Charles] was closer to Harry and that’s why it’s hit him quite hard with what’s happened with Harry," the royal commentator, who co-wrote the 2002 book Diana: Closely Guarded Secret, said on the True Royalty program The Royal Beat, per The Sun.

Queen Elizabeth II's son has been upset, to say the least, with Harry bashing his life as a royal and criticizing his childhood. Charles has apparently been "freezing" his youngest son out ever since their brief reunion in April for Prince Philips' funeral, which seemed to worsen their rift.

The red-headed prince's rocky relationship with his family went from bad to worse after he and Meghan first aired out their dirty laundry while talking to Oprah. At the time, Harry said he believed his dad and brother are "trapped" in royal life, and the couple credited the family's lack of support as one of the reasons they said goodbye to their royal lives.

The new father-of-two didn't stop there. He went on to bash Charles' parenting style, claiming he passed down the pain and suffering he endured from being raised by Her Majesty and her late husband to Harry and William.

“My father used to say to me when I was younger, he used to say to William and I, ‘Well, it was like that for me, so it’s gonna be like that for you.’ That doesn’t make sense," Harry said while appearing on Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast.

In light of Harry's troubling claims against his family, an insider previously revealed Charles can't deal with the never-ending accusations. "Charles is boiling with anger and feels tortured by Harry with his constant digs," claimed an insider. "He wishes he’d just let it drop."

Meanwhile, Harry had a chance to hash things out with his brother and dad on two separate occasions, but neither event proved to be all that successful. Harry reunited with his family for the first time in the U.K. since his exit and controversial interviews to attend Philip's funeral.

At the time, the only chat he, William and Charles engaged in was a clear-the-air talk. When Harry returned to the U.K for the second time ahead of Princess Diana's statue unveiling, Charles happened to have plans out of the country. The two reportedly planned a one-on-one dinner while Harry was still in town, but it is unknown if their reunion ended up taking place.

It looks like Harry's estranged relationship with Charles won't be salvaged anytime soon, as he's gearing up to release an explosive memoir, due out in 2022, about his childhood. News of his latest project left his dad feeling "surprised," as no one behind palace walls reportedly knew about the upcoming book.
