Sandra Bullock recalled her daughter Laila Bullock's emotional response to the actress' late partner, Bryan Randall’s prolonged ALS battle.
The 62-year-old recently appeared on the “SmartLess” podcast, alongside her longtime friend and the podcast’s host, Jason Bateman and co-hosts Will Arnett and Sean Hayes.
Discussing whether her children were aware of Bryan’s deteriorating health condition, she said, “They could see. They have eyes. And they are very, very astute kids.”

Sandra Bullock admitted that her children are 'very astute.'
The actress noted that her children were “completely aware” of the major health crisis Bryan was suffering from, despite the world at large being in the dark about it.
She explained that she thinks her children are extremely perceptive “because they not only see the physical change, [but] there’s a behavior that changes in all of us.”
The Practical Magic star also revealed that while she explained what was happening to her children as honestly as possible, she also gave them time to process the changes they saw.
She also left it to her children, Louis Bullock, 16, and Laila, 12, to decide how they wanted to respond to the situation.
Sandra Bullock said her daughter, Laila Bullock, remained close with Bryan Randall until about six months before his death.
She revealed that her daughter, in particular, remained “more bonded” with her late partner “until about six months out.”
“And then she says, ‘Can you please say no when they call me over to go visit?’ And I said, ‘Absolutely,’” she recalled her heartbreaking request.
She added, “And I said, ‘But, if you do wanna go visit, I will come with you, and I will be right there. And if you tap out, I am right there.’”

Sandra Bullock Shared That Her Son Louis Started Pulling Away From the Situation a While Before Bryan Randall's Death
Sandra Bullock's son, Louis Bullock, started pulling away from the situation two years before Bryan Randall's death.
The Hollywood icon also shared that her son reacted very differently from her daughter to the photographer’s battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
“Louis handled it very differently than Laila. About two years before Bryan passed, he saw it was a dynamic that wasn’t healthy for him to be around,” she explained behind the teenager’s decision to take a step back.
“So, he’s very evolved. He’s like, ‘You know what? I’m here for you,’” she continued.
Sandra Bullock previously called Bryan Randall the love of her life.
However, she admitted that she “didn’t want him to become the man of the family at that age. My job [was] to be both at that time.”
The Oscar-winning actress and Bryan reportedly met in 2015 when the actress hired him to photograph Louis’ fifth birthday party. They remained together for eight years until his death in 2023 at the age of 57 after a three-year battle with ALS.
The former model helped raise the movie star's two children and remained a father figure in their lives. The Speed star called him “love of my life” during a previous Red Table Talk episode.
