Jamie Lee Curtis was visibly emotional while reflecting on Rob and Michele Reiner’s deaths.
During the Wednesday, April 1, episode of Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson’s “IMO” podcast, the actress, 67, recalled how difficult it was hearing of her friends’ murders on daughter Annie Guest’s birthday in December 2025.

“Rob and Michelle are her godparents,” Jamie said.
Just one week after the tragic incident, Annie gave birth to her first child, which the movie star considers “life on life’s harshest terms and life on life’s most beautiful, perfect terms.”
“My beautiful daughter who loved [the Reiners] — as we all did — managed to be able to metabolize her grief and sadness, as we all have had to do,” Jamie explained.

Jamie Lee Curtis was close friends with Rob and Michele Reiner.
On December 14, 2025, the Freaky Friday alum released an emotional statement to honor the late couple.
"[Husband] Christopher [Guest] and I are numb and sad and shocked about the violent, tragic deaths of our dear friends Rob and Michele Singer Reiner and our ONLY focus and care right now is for their children and immediate families and we will offer all support possible to help them," the statement read. "There will be plenty of time later to discuss the creative lives we shared and the great political and social impact they both had on the entertainment industry, early childhood development, the fight for gay marriage and their global care for a world in crisis. We have lost great friends. Please give us time to grieve.”

Jamie Lee Curtis issued a statement after Rob and Michele Reiner's deaths.
Rob and Michele were found dead inside their Brentwood, Calif., home by their daughter, Romy, on December 14. According to their death certificates, they died of “multiple sharp force injuries” caused "with [a] knife, by another,” and were alive for “minutes” before passing away.
Nick Reiner Allegedly Killed His Parents

Rob and Michele Reiner were allegedly murdered by son Nick.
Just a few hours after the bodies were discovered, their son Nick was arrested as a murder suspect. Nick was at a hotel in Santa Monica, Calif., about 20 miles away from his parents’ home, and his room was reportedly covered with blood.

Nick made an appearance on February 23 in a Los Angeles courtroom. He pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances, with many believing he'll cite insanity. The alleged murderer is set to appear in court again on April 29 and will remain in jail without bail in the meantime.
Ahead of the incident, the young screenwriter struggled with substance abuse, mental health and was in and out of rehab for several years.
