Chris Brown has reportedly informed a judge that he will be unable to appear in court due to his busy touring schedule.
The artist is currently collaborating with Usher for a nationwide concert tour titled The R&B Tour. As a co-headliner, he is booked throughout the year for shows that would require him to hop from city to city.
He explained this in a recent court filing, which was obtained by TMZ, as his reason for not being able to appear at the court hearings for his ongoing legal battle with his former housekeeper.
Chris Brown Pleads With Judge to Exempt His Mandatory Attendance at Court Hearings
Chris Brown argued that he won't be able to show up to court in Van Nuys as he lives over 150 miles away from the courthouse.
Brown was expected to appear at the Van Nuys courthouse, where Maria Avila, his former housekeeper, sought a thorough investigation of his finances and bank statements to determine how he will pay her the $13 million he owes her in court-mandated damages.
In the recent court filing, he also reportedly argued that he cannot be forced to show up to the courthouse, as he lives in Las Vegas, which is over 150 miles away from the court.
Chris Brown stated in his court documents that there is no evidence of him engaging in fraudulent activities to avoid paying Maria Avila her dues.
The singer also highlighted that California laws explicitly state that such examinations into a person’s finances are to be limited within a 150-mile radius of their residence.
He also pointed out that no evidence has been found to indicate that he had concealed or transferred funds and assets to avoid paying her the dues.

Chris Brown Might Extend His Ongoing Tour Into Next Year
Chris Brown's ex-housekeeper, Maria Avila, was allegedly attacked by his dog Hades in 2020.
Per Complex, the court filing reads, “Mr. Brown’s ongoing travel makes Plaintiffs’ request particularly problematic.”
The filing also stated that the “No Guidance” hitmaker is in the middle of “ongoing late-stage discussions about extending this tour internationally through the end of 2027.”
The court previously ruled that until Brown pays the debt in full, Avila will be entitled to get a share of his tour profits.
The incident occurred in December, 2020 when Avila was doing chores around Brown’s Tarzana, Calif., residence.
Chris Brown filed a motion to challenge his previous guilty verdict in his legal battle against Maria Avila.
However, his 200-pound Caucasian Shepherd, named Hades, allegedly attacked her. Instead of calling 911, the singer reportedly left the scene.
The attack reportedly left her with severe facial disfigurement, vision loss and nerve damage, per BBC.
Avila filed a lawsuit, which was followed by a two-week trial, where Brown was found guilty and ordered to pay the housekeeper $13 million in damages.
The star has reportedly filed a motion for a new trial, with a hearing reportedly set for September.
