Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Hope to Remain Disconnected From the Royal Family
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry left the royal family in 2020, and the couple is developing a new life for themselves in California. Although they are based in the U.S., critics wonder if the Sussexes would want to rebuild with Harry's relatives one day.
PR expert Kieran Elsby discussed the schism between the partners and the monarchy in an interview.
"While they've voiced their desire for privacy and independence, their actions, such as this potential property purchase, might be interpreted as a deliberate move to maintain a disconnect from the royal family," Eslby told a publication. "It's essential for them to find a balance between personal freedom and maintaining some level of connection with the institution that has been a significant part of their lives."
"Whether this signifies another layer of the royal feud or not, it's clear that the divide continues to widen," he added.
Elsby speculated that Harry's father, King Charles, is ready to meet with his youngest son and come to a resolution.
"He is demonstrating he is ready to reconcile and that ultimately, the onus is on them to make a decision as to whether they want to heal the wounds that have opened up between them and the rest of the royal family," the professional noted.
"The King has done that quite successfully so far. He's held the moral high ground, he's presented himself as a conciliator. That is the best way to maintain his reputation as a public figure," he continued.
Although Meghan and Harry haven't attended a royal gathering together since Queen Elizabeth's funeral, they presented a united front at the Archewell Foundation Parents' Summit. Shortly after quitting their senior-level roles, Meghan and Harry developed Archewell to continue their humanitarian work.
OK! previously reported the duo hoped to advocate for safer internet usage in honor of World Mental Health Day, and Meghan credited Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet for her philanthropic initiatives.
"Outside, of course, being a wife to this one,” Meghan joked on the panel. “I feel fortunate that our children are quite young, so this isn’t in our immediate future, but I also feel frightened by how it’s continuing to change and this will be in front of us.”

Harry admitted to wanting to protect his youngsters as they grow up with access to search engines and social media.
“I think for us, with kids growing up in a digital age, the priority is to turn pain into purpose and provide as much support as well as a spotlight and a platform for parents,” the veteran confessed.

During her second pregnancy, Meghan told talk show host Oprah Winfrey that being a matriarch holds more value than her formal title.
"All the grandeur surrounding this stuff is an attachment I don’t personally have. I’ve been a waitress, an actress, a princess, a Duchess — I’ve always still just been Meghan, right? I’ve been clear on who I am, independent of all that stuff, and the most important title I’ll ever have is mom. I know that," she stressed.
